Ethos Classical is a tuition-free public charter school committed to providing scholars with a safe, joyful, and rigorous education. Our Grade 8 team prepares scholars for a successful transition to high school through strong instruction, meaningful relationships, and high expectations.
Position Overview
The Grade 8 Math Teacher leads Grade 8 mathematics instruction and teaches a section of Algebra. This teacher builds scholars’ conceptual understanding, mathematical reasoning, and problem-solving skills while providing appropriate challenge for advanced and gifted learners.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver Grade 8 Math and Algebra instruction aligned with Georgia standards.
- Teach scholars to explain their reasoning, compare strategies, and apply mathematics to unfamiliar problems.
- Strengthen foundational skills while maintaining rigorous grade-level expectations.
- Provide enrichment and advanced learning opportunities for gifted scholars.
- Use assessments and scholar work to identify misconceptions and adjust instruction.
- Monitor Algebra scholars’ progress and readiness for subsequent high school mathematics.
- Establish a safe, joyful classroom with clear routines and high expectations.
- Communicate regularly with families about scholar progress.
- Collaborate with specialized services staff to implement scholar accommodations and supports.
- Participate in coaching, professional development, and Grade 8 team planning.
- Reinforce the study habits, independence, and self-advocacy scholars need for high school.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Valid Georgia teaching certification appropriate to Grade 8 Math and the assigned Algebra course required.
- Gifted endorsement required.
- Strong content knowledge in middle school mathematics and Algebra.
- Experience teaching advanced mathematics learners preferred.
- Strong classroom management, communication, and collaboration skills.
