Job Description:

ST&S Finance & Risk provides financial stewardship, reporting, control and risk support to Supply, Trading & Shipping. The Controllership team is part of Core Finance & Risk and owns controlled delivery of close and reporting activities for an assigned business or portfolio. The role reports to the Senior Manager, Controllership and provides technical controllership oversight across co-located, business and technology centre, and service-provider teams.

The Controllership Lead owns the accurate, timely and controlled delivery of close, accounting and reporting activities for an assigned ST&S business or portfolio. The role provides technical accounting execution and issue resolution, with particular focus on derivative accounting, fair value valuation, hedge or economic relationship considerations, and management-to-accounting alignment for commodity activity. It ensures accounting requirements and controls are consistently applied, provides clear, assured actuals to Finance stakeholders, and drives standardisation, simplification, automation and continuous improvement while maintaining effective interfaces with technical accounting, Commodity Risk, Commercial Finance, auditors and service providers.

In This Role You Will:

- Lead and coordinate monthly, quarterly and annual close activities, ensuring complete, accurate and timely financial results, reconciliations and reporting.
- Own controllership delivery for the assigned scope, including due diligence, management-to-accounting alignment, derivative accounting, fair value valuation, intercompany matters, statutory reporting support and resolution of material issues.
- Ensure financial controls are appropriately designed and operated across close, reporting, derivative accounting and valuation processes; evidence is maintained, control gaps are assessed and remediated, and material risks or issues are escalated promptly.
- Lead the accounting implementation of new business activity and business change, working with technical accounting and other specialists to translate requirements into sustainable processes, data, controls and ways of working.
- Coordinate priorities across teams and locations, review complex outputs, provide technical guidance and support clear accountability for quality, service and delivery.
- Drive global consistency and continuous improvement by simplifying processes, reducing manual activity, strengthening data quality and sponsoring practical automation and technology improvements.

Essential Experience & Job Requirements:

- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in accounting, finance or a related discipline.
- Significant experience in controllership, accounting, reporting or financial control, including complex close activities and issue resolution in a large or complex organisation.
- Deep practical knowledge of financial accounting, period-end close, financial reporting and internal control in a complex trading or supply environment.
- Strong understanding of accounting for physical and financial commodity activity, with deeper expertise in derivative accounting, fair value valuation, market data impacts, lifecycle events and management-to-accounting alignment.
- Able to apply policies and technical guidance across processes, systems, businesses and locations, and to identify when specialist technical accounting input is required.
- Strong understanding of ST&S or a comparable commodity trading and supply business, including how trading activity, contracts, systems, market data and operational events affect financial results.
- Understands the respective accountabilities of the Front Office, Commodity Risk, Commercial Finance, technical accounting, Core Finance, service providers and external audit, and can work effectively across those boundaries.
- Uses sound judgement to resolve complex accounting, derivative valuation, data, control and process issues, often under tight reporting deadlines and with incomplete information.
- Builds trusted relationships with senior Finance and Risk stakeholders, technical specialists, auditors and delivery teams.
- Communicates complex accounting and control matters in clear business language, provides constructive challenge and secures alignment across competing priorities.
- Confidently escalates material issues while maintaining a collaborative, solutions-focused approach.

Desirable Criteria & Qualifications:

- Professional accounting qualification or advanced degree in accounting, finance or a related discipline.
- Experience in commodity trading or supply, with strong preference for derivative accounting, fair value valuation, valuation controls, internal controls, statutory reporting, audit, global service delivery, and process or technology transformation.
- Professional accounting qualification preferred.
