Job Description

Overview

Develop Your Career and Shape the Future of Water Infrastructure

At AtkinsRéalis, our Design & Advanced Technology practice brings together some of the UK's most diverse engineering and design expertise to tackle the most complex challenges facing our clients, communities, and the environment.

We are seeking a Senior or Principal Electrical Engineer to join our growing Water team delivering a diverse portfolio of projects for UK water companies, local authorities, and environmental organisations. Working directly with clients, rather than through third parties, you will play a key role in shaping solutions from concept through to delivery, influencing technical direction and building trusted client relationships.

Join us at a pivotal moment for the UK water industry. AMP8 represents a step change in investment, creating opportunities to work on some of the most significant infrastructure programmes in a generation, including strategic reservoir developments, water resource schemes, treatment works upgrades, and major resilience projects that will help secure water supplies for decades to come.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Chartered Engineer looking to apply their expertise across one of the UK's largest and most diverse portfolios of water infrastructure projects.   Whether your ambition is to strengthen your technical expertise, lead the delivery of major programmes, grow client relationships, or progress towards people leadership, AtkinsRéalis offers the scale, support, and opportunities to help you achieve your goals.

When you join us, you'll become part of a collaborative community of experts who challenge conventional thinking and push the boundaries of engineering excellence.

You'll benefit from:

- Secure workload through major long-term frameworks.

- Opportunities to influence nationally significant projects and helping to shape the future of water infrastructure across the UK.

- Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams across the UK and internationally.

- Opportunities to influence project outcomes from concept through to delivery.

- A culture that encourages innovation, technical excellence and professional growth.

- Flexible and hybrid working arrangements that support work-life balance.

- Clear career progression pathways and professional development opportunities

We offer hybrid working which involves 3 days per week being office/site based. This position can be based from any of our major offices of London Nova, Epsom, Birmingham, Bristol, Manchester, Glasgow or Belfast.  It can also be based in one of our regional offices of Leeds, Newcastle, Peterborough, Exeter, Derby, Cardiff, Swansea, Cambridge, or Edinburgh.

Your role

The role offers broad project exposure, technical development, and clear opportunities for progression within a collaborative and growing team.

You will:

- Lead the delivery on electrical engineering solutions for water resource projects through all stages of the project lifecycle.

- Work collaboratively with colleagues across multiple disciplines to develop integrated and sustainable outcomes.

- Provide technical guidance, support, and assurance to engineers and technicians, acting as a key point of contact within project teams while supporting the growth and development of the electrical engineering capability through mentoring and coaching.

- Develop and review technical reports, calculations, specifications, drawings, and design packages to ensure high-quality project delivery.

- Build strong relationships within project teams, clients, stakeholders and project partners.

- Contribute to innovation, continuous improvement and the adoption of new technologies.

- Help identify opportunities within the Practice to create additional value for clients and communities.

About you

We're interested in people who are technically strong, commercially aware and genuinely enjoy collaborative working.  You will bring a willingness to learn, a proactive approach to problem solving, and the ability to work collaboratively within diverse project teams.

You’ll ideally bring:

- A degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.

- Chartered or Incorporated status with IET or an equivalent institution OR extensive experience and the ability to become chartered within 12 months.

- Proven experience working within multidisciplinary project environments and leading technical delivery within the water sector or from a transferable industry background.

- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with a collaborative approach to problem solving.

- A commitment to innovation, sustainability and technical excellence.

- Experience of engineering risk assessment and process safety studies (e.g. HAZOP), with an understanding of safety systems, operational risks, and regulatory compliance.
