About this role

ABOUT ASTROBASE SPACE TECHNOLOGIES Astrobase is a pioneering spacetech startup founded by prominent Senior ISRO scientists and IIT Bombay alumni with over 20 years of experience in designing, manufacturing, testing and flying advanced Cryogenic Launch Vehicles. Driven by a vision to make India a Space tech powerhouse, we are developing innovative launch vehicles that will transform space exploration. At Astrobase, you’ll be part of a team creating history in the Indian space industry. Our goal is to become the first private space company from India to land on the moon economically.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
In-house inspection (QC Lab) • Inspect machined and fabricated parts at every stage against the drawing, GD&T and inspection plan. • Carry out First Article Inspection (FAI) for new parts and design changes and prepare FAI reports as per AS9102. • Use precision instruments, CMM and VMM to check critical features. • Make sure parts going into propellant and oxygen lines are cleaned and handled appropriately and keep the work area free of FOD.
In-Process Inspection (Shop Floor) • Work with machinists and production engineers to identify and fix quality issues during manufacturing. • Check machine setups, first-off parts and process sequences on CNC turning, milling and other operations, and flag anything in the tooling, fixtures or process that could cause trouble. • Suggest suitable inspection stages and gauges to make sure critical features are checked during production.
Supplier Quality and Non-Conformance • Take part in supplier quality activities like source inspection, first article approval and process audits. • Review supplier documentation: material test certificates, heat-treatment and special-process records, inspection reports and certificates of conformance. • Raise NCRs for in-house and Supplier parts and share relevant information with the respective teams. • Ensure inspection records are accurate and ready for internal and external audits.
AS9100D readiness • Manage calibration records and control of measuring equipment in the QC lab.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATION

Should also be able to prepare an inspection plan from a drawing. • Hand-on experience with Vernier Calipers, Micrometers, Height Gauge, Bore Gauge, Thread and Pin Gauge & Surface Roughness testers. Exposure to CMM inspection. • Working knowledge of AS9100D requirements and the ability to learn and follow new quality processes as they are introduced. • Able to hold or reject parts that do not meet requirements and discuss quality issues clearly with suppliers and internal teams.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION • Experience with First Article Inspection to AS9102. • CMM programming experience (for example PC-DMIS, Calypso or similar). • NDT Level II certification in PT, MT or UT (ASNT or ISO 9712). • Exposure to inspection of rocket engine, propulsion, cryogenic or high-pressure fluid components, or work with ISRO, HAL, DRDO or their vendors. • Knowledge of oxygen-service cleanliness standards and cleanroom practices.
