## Project Overview:
Bechtel and Westinghouse Electric Company have partnered to deliver the first AP1000 nuclear power reactors in Poland for our customer, the Polish Entity Polskie Elektrownie Jadrowe (PEJ). Bechtel will be the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor for the project. As the EPC, our responsibilities will include providing the design for the Turbine Island and Balance of Plant as well as the construction of the entire facility. This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity, and we are looking for the talent that will help expand Poland’s nuclear base and build a strong and long-lasting energy future for generations to come.
This position is subject to U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) regulations at 10 CFR Part 810 (Part 810), which govern the transfer of hardware, materials, and technology to support the construction and operation of commercial nuclear power plants overseas.
## Job Summary:
The EHS Advisor and Trainer delivers the project's EHS training program and provides day-to-day EHS advice to the workforce, supervision, and subcontractors. The role is the point where project EHS standards reach the people doing the work: running inductions and training sessions in Polish, translating and adapting project material so it lands with a Polish-speaking workforce, advising on how a requirement applies to a specific task, and
making sure that what Polish law requires and what the project requires are both satisfied by the same set of controls. It combines classroom and field delivery and suits an EHS professional who is as comfortable in front of a training room as in a construction area.
## Major Responsibilities:
Training Delivery
- Delivers the project's EHS training curriculum in Polish and English - site induction, role and activity-specific training, high-risk activity training, refresher courses and toolbox talk content - to Bechtel personnel, subcontractors and visitors.
- Develops and adapts training material so it works for the audience in front of it - preparing Polish-language versions of project content, checking that translated material keeps its technical meaning, and using examples drawn from the site's own work rather than generic ones.
- Assures that training content satisfies both Polish statutory training obligations and the project's own requirements, so that a worker completing a course is compliant on both counts without sitting through the same material twice.
- Verifies competency rather than attendance - assessing understanding through practical exercises, field observation and structured assessment, and referring workers for further training where the standard has not been met.
- Maintains accurate training and certification records for the workforce, tracks expiries and refresher due dates, checks the validity of externally issued certificates and medical clearances, and flags gaps before they become an access or compliance problem.
- Coordinates external training providers and statutory courses, verifies provider credentials and course content against project requirements, and schedules training around the construction program, so crews are qualified before the work reaches them.
EHS Advisory
- Advises supervision, crews and subcontractor staff on how project EHS requirements apply to the task in front of them, giving practical answers in the language the person asking is most comfortable in.
- Explains the relationship between Polish statutory requirements and project standards where the two differ in form, and advises which control satisfies both - a frequent source of confusion on an internationally staffed project.
- Spends regular time in the construction areas observing work, coaching at the point of the task, and identifying where a recurring problem is a training gap rather than a discipline issue - then closing it through the training program.
- Supports risk assessment and method statement review by advising on the training and competency the described work will require, and confirming those requirements are met before the activity starts.
- Supports incident investigations by conducting interviews in the workforce's own language, so that accounts are accurate and complete rather than constrained by a language barrier and identifies the training actions arising.
- Supports the workforce engagement program - safety committees, stand-downs, campaigns and recognition - and acts as an accessible route for workers to raise EHS concerns without a language obstacle.
- Assists with regulatory and customer inspections by supporting communication with Polish-speaking inspectors and authority representatives, and by producing training and competency records on request.
## Education and Experience Requirements:
- Requires a Bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) in an occupational health and safety, environmental, engineering or related discipline, together with a minimum of 8 years of EHS experience on construction or industrial projects, including demonstrable experience delivering EHS training to a working audience. An equivalent combination of recognized EHS qualifications and additional relevant construction experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Candidates must hold the occupational health and safety qualifications required to practice in Poland, any train-the-trainer or instructor certification is a plus and must have the right to work in Poland.
## Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Native or fully fluent Polish, spoken and written, is essential - the role delivers training, conducts interviews and advises the workforce in Polish. Strong working English is equally essential for project documentation, reporting and working within an international team.
- Detailed working knowledge of Polish occupational health and safety and environmental legislation, statutory training and certification requirements, and the expectations of the Polish labor inspection and environmental authorities.
- Established capability as a trainer - able to hold the attention of a construction audience, adapt delivery to mixed literacy and experience levels, and be believed by people who have heard safety training before.
- Practical knowledge of construction hazards and controls - work at height and scaffold, lifting operations, excavation, confined space, energy isolation, hot work, mobile plant and electrical safety - sufficient to train on them credibly and advise on them in the field.
- A recognized international EHS certification such as NEBOSH International General Certificate, or willingness to obtain one, alongside the Polish qualifications the role requires.
- Skilled at translating technical EHS material between Polish and English without losing precision - a mistranslated control is a control that does not work.
- Awareness of ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 and of how training and competency records support a certified management system.
- Approachable and credible with the workforce, and comfortable raising an issue with supervision when advice is not being acted on.
- Proficient in MS Office and in learning management or training record systems; comfortable producing clear training material and accurate records.
