About this role

Position Summary

Stanley Black & Decker (SBD) is seeking a high-impact Program Manager to lead its Commodity Risk Management program from our India operations hub. This role sits at the intersection of financial risk, supply chain strategy, and global procurement, and is central to protecting SBD's cost structure against commodity price volatility, supply disruptions, and geopolitical uncertainty.

The Program Manager will design, execute, and continuously improve SBD's commodity hedging program while building a broader risk management framework that spans dual sourcing, supplier diversification, tariff exposure, and scenario planning. This is a high-visibility role with direct exposure to senior leadership across Procurement, Finance, and Supply Chain.

Key Responsibilities

1.  Commodity Hedging & Financial Risk Management

·       Own end-to-end design and execution of SBD's commodity hedging program, covering metals (steel, copper, aluminum), resins, energy, and other key inputs.

·       Develop and maintain hedging strategies — including forward contracts, options, swaps, and index-linked pricing — aligned to SBD's risk appetite and treasury policy.

·       Monitor commodity markets; generate price forecasts and exposure reports for leadership review.

·       Quantify open commodity exposure in dollar terms across the global bill of materials and translate into actionable hedge recommendations.

·       Partner with Treasury and Finance to ensure hedge accounting treatment is correctly applied and documented under IFRS/US GAAP.

·       Track hedge effectiveness, mark-to-market positions, and realized vs. unrealized gains/losses on a monthly basis.

·       Build and maintain a commodity risk dashboard that provides real-time visibility into exposure, coverage ratios, and P&L impact.

2.  Dual Sourcing & Supply Resilience

·       Identify single-source commodity dependencies across SBD's global supply base and develop dual- or multi-source strategies to reduce concentration risk.

·       Lead qualification of alternative suppliers for critical raw materials, working cross-functionally with Engineering, Quality, and Category Management.

·       Define and track dual-sourcing KPIs (coverage %, qualification cycle time, cost parity) and report progress to the Director of Commodity Excellence.

·       Maintain a live supplier risk register that scores suppliers on financial health, geographic concentration, capacity, and ESG compliance.

·       Coordinate with regional procurement teams (Americas, EMEA, APAC) to ensure dual-source strategies are implemented consistently at the plant level.

3.   Commodity Market Intelligence & Analytics

·       Build and maintain a commodity intelligence function: track LME, CME, and regional spot/futures markets; synthesize macro signals (inflation, energy costs, freight rates) into procurement strategy.

·       Develop quantitative models to forecast commodity price movements over 3-, 6-, and 12-month horizons using statistical and machine-learning techniques.

·       Produce monthly Commodity Risk Reports for the CFO, CPO, and Supply Chain leadership, translating market data into clear business impact and recommended actions.

·       Benchmark SBD's commodity costs against industry indices and peer companies to identify cost-reduction opportunities.

·       Maintain a structured database of commodity price history, contract terms, and supplier pricing to support should-cost modeling and negotiation preparation.

4.  Program Governance & Cross-Functional Leadership

·       Establish and chair a monthly Commodity Risk Review with Finance, Treasury, Procurement, and Supply Chain to align on exposure, coverage, and escalation decisions.

·       Define the governance framework for commodity risk decisions: approval thresholds, escalation paths, and documentation standards.

·       Drive adoption of commodity risk management tools and processes across SBD's global procurement organization through training, playbooks, and change management.

·       Manage relationships with external commodity brokers, banks, and market data providers.

·       Support annual budget and AOP processes by providing commodity price assumptions and risk-adjusted cost forecasts.

6.  Sustainability & ESG-Linked Commodity Risk

·       Assess ESG-related commodity risks — including conflict minerals, carbon border adjustment mechanisms (CBAM), and responsible sourcing requirements — and integrate them into the risk framework.

·       Support SBD's sustainability commitments by identifying lower-carbon material alternatives and tracking Scope 3 emissions exposure by commodity category.

·       Ensure compliance with OECD Due Diligence Guidance for Responsible Supply Chains and applicable regulatory reporting requirements.

Qualifications & Experience

Required

·       Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Finance, Economics, Supply Chain, or a related quantitative field.

·       7–10 years of progressive experience in commodity risk management, procurement, treasury, or supply chain finance — with at least 3 years directly managing a hedging or commodity risk program.

·       Demonstrated expertise in financial hedging instruments: forwards, futures, options, and swaps across metals, energy, or agricultural commodities.

·       Strong quantitative skills; proficiency in Excel financial modeling, statistical analysis, and data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau, or equivalent).

·       Experience conducting tariff and trade policy analysis, including Section 232/301, USMCA, or equivalent trade frameworks.

·       Proven ability to manage cross-functional programs across geographies and business units.

·       Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; ability to present complex risk topics clearly to senior executives.
