About this role
Description
AWS Applied AI Solutions (AAIS) is building toward a future where every business innovates with Amazon AI teammates. To get there, we build AI solutions that improve human capabilities and transform entire business functions. We create end-to-end products that surprise and delight out-of-the-box, making complex things easy and hard things possible, with no cloud experience required. We start with customers who embrace the future and build bridges to meet the rest where they are. We pursue ambitious opportunities with conviction, and we are looking for builders who share that mindset.
The Amazon Agentic WorkSpaces organization is building the future of secure high-performance agentic WorkSpaces Applications environments - environments that span desktops and applications serving knowledge workers, task workers, and automation agents at millions-of-users scale.
The role
The Amazon Agentic WorkSpaces organization is seeking a Software Development Manager to lead the team Watchtower. The Watchtower team owns three pillars. 1) Monitoring is the always-on operational backbone of the WorkSpaces fleet, delivering near-real-time health visibility for every WorkSpace instance. 2) Proxy establishes secure communication between control plane services and the agents running on every WorkSpace instance. 3) Fleet AI Platforms which powers AI-driven qualification and image release, the WorkSpaces Knowledge Base, and the AI Companion. Our aim is to detect every WorkSpace health change in near real time, reach every on-instance agent securely, run every recurring operational workflow autonomously through AI agents at fleet scale, and give every engineer and administrator an AI teammate that knows their domain as well as they do.
In Monitoring, you will own health reporting, AutoStop hibernation detection, on-instance event publishing, and diagnostic log collection, and be accountable for the metrics that define fleet health: one-minute health freshness, log pull coverage, and impaired WorkSpace counts. You will evolve the platform toward invariant and drift detection, near-real-time log push, and a governed event hub, and cut impairment noise by detecting customer-initiated maintenance.
In Proxy, you will hold every proxy and credential path to least-privilege access, short-lived credentials, and network isolation, expand coverage into new partitions, and lead Unification to extend agent proxy coverage to WorkSpaces Applications while retiring legacy paths.
In Fleet AI Platforms, you will build the Knowledge Base as a federated, human-verified organizational brain and the AI Companion as an ambient agent that learns from its users and eventually works for them. You will take these from internal tooling to customer-facing capabilities and pilot AI agents for large-scale event handling.
You will lead a 2-pizza team organized as self-driven pods, where each pod builds on the Knowledge Base, every engineer directs an AI Companion, and engineers define, direct, and deliver rather than execute step by step. You will lead on the loop, not in the flow: you set direction and decision boundaries, and you rely on AI-generated digests instead of status meetings. You will raise the engineering bar on design rigor, code quality, testing, and safe deployment. You will measure the model on velocity, knowledge accuracy, and engineer satisfaction, and help scale it across the organization. You will write design documents, tenets, and PR/FAQs. Above all, you will hire, grow, and retain engineers who scale with the business.
