# Job Description Summary
The Controls Process Development & Documentation Engineer – System Architect is responsible for capturing, formalizing, and continuously improving the engineering execution processes used by the HDNU Controls System Architect teams.
The successful candidate will partner closely with GEV Architects, Alliance Architects, and the Controlled Title Holder (CTH) to document current-state processes, apply Lean methodologies to identify and eliminate waste, and publish standardized, repeatable job aids, work instructions, checklists, and process guides that drive first-pass yield (FPY), reduce customer escapes, reduce cycle time, ensure on time delivery, and build a culture of execution excellence.
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
- Partner with GEV Architects, Alliance Controls Engineers, Controlled Title Holders (CTH), Global Design Leaders (GDLs), and Controls leadership to validate process documentation for accuracy and applicability.
- Coordinate with CLM administrators and Confluence page owners to maintain platform governance and documentation integrity.
- Present process improvement plans, documentation status, and Lean workout outcomes to team and business leaders.
- Support onboarding of new engineers by ensuring documented job aids and checklists serve as effective training tools, eliminating reliance on informally held process knowledge.
- ### Process Documentation & Standardization
- Capture and formalize current-state GT milestone execution processes across all software flavors (HA/B/E/F EO and Extended Scope, CORE) and applicable milestones from PRR through COD, including: PRR, CKoM, A210PIO/FIO, A276, Alpha SW, Integration SW, Customer Demo, Commissioning SW, Charlie SW, First Fire SW, and COD.
- Author, publish, and maintain Job Aids, Checklists, and Process Guides for all GT software milestones.
- Establish and maintain proper linkage between Milestone Review Guides in Confluence and Milestone Test Suites and Child Test Scripts in CLM, and provide internal cross-links between Milestone Review Guides and process step guides within Confluence.
- Reorganize Confluence pages under New Units (GT Fulfillment) to create a logical, navigable, and consistently maintained documentation architecture.
- Update GT Milestone Checklists and Job Aids and support their pilot use on projects to validate accuracy and usability.
- ### Lean Process Improvement
- Apply Lean tools and methodologies — including Problem Solving Reports (PSR), Gemba Walks, Kaizen Events, 3x5 Why (Root Cause Analysis), Value Stream Mapping (VSM), and daily management practices — to identify waste, reduce cycle time, and improve execution quality across GT milestone processes.
- Lead or support VSM Current State and Future State exercises for GT milestone execution, building on the VSM review conducted during the Lean Workout.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, or related discipline) from an accredited college or university.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in controls engineering, systems engineering, or a related technical execution role within the power generation industry.
- Strong technical writing skills with demonstrated ability to author clear, structured process documentation, job aids, checklists, and work instructions.
Desired Characteristics
- Demonstrated experience with Gas Turbine or Steam Turbine Controls environments, including familiarity with milestone-based software execution processes (Alpha, Integration, Comm SW, Charlie, First Fire).
- Demonstrated experience applying Lean methodologies in an engineering or manufacturing environment, including VSM, PSR, Gemba, Kaizen, and root cause analysis tools such as 3x5 Why.
- Familiarity with Confluence (or equivalent engineering knowledge management platforms) and CLM (or equivalent test management/checklist platforms).
- Experience with GE Vernova tools and platforms, including ControlST, AVEVA (IO tools), ACME, Mark VIe, and CLM.
- Experience working in a global matrixed environment with strong collaboration and cross-functional influence skills.
- Knowledge of agile execution methodologies and experience structuring engineering work as user stories or checklist-based tasks.
- Lean certification (Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or higher, or equivalent GE Vernova Lean training) is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to independently drive projects to completion with minimal oversight, with a bias for action and continuous improvement.
