Structural Steel Fabricator – Fitter/Welder
Location: York, PA
Job Type: Full-Time | Contract-to-Hire
Shifts: 1st & 2nd Shift
Pay: Up to $25/hour, depending on experience
2nd Shift Differential: +$3/hour
Position Summary
We are looking for experienced structural steel fabrication professionals for Fitter and Welder/Fitter assignments. Depending on experience and placement, the position may focus primarily on steel layout and fit-up or include Flux Core welding.
The role involves working from fabrication drawings, taking precise measurements, positioning steel components, and preparing assemblies for welding and final production.

Key Responsibilities

- Review blueprints, shop drawings, and fabrication specifications before starting work.

- Measure, lay out, and mark structural steel parts according to drawing requirements.

- Position, align, and secure steel members for accurate fit-up.

- Fit and assemble structural components for welding and final production.

- Perform Flux Core welding when assigned to welder/fitter duties.

- Set up and operate a track torch.

- Use and maintain welding equipment, fabrication machinery, and hand tools safely.

- Check dimensions, alignment, fit-up, and completed assemblies for accuracy.

- Make adjustments to meet fabrication specifications and drawing requirements.

- Coordinate with supervisors and other fabricators to meet production goals.

- Keep tools and work areas clean, organized, and safe.

- Follow all required safety procedures and shop practices.

Qualifications

- At least 3 years of structural steel fabrication experience.

- Previous experience as a structural steel fitter, welder/fitter, structural welder, or in a similar role.

- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and technical drawings.

- Hands-on skills in steel layout, measuring, fitting, positioning, and assembly.

- Knowledge of welding processes, materials, and equipment.

- Ability to set up and operate a track torch.

- Ability to perform Flux Core welding and pass a pre-employment welding test.

- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.

- Good communication and teamwork skills.

- Commitment to safe work practices.

- AWS or other recognized welding certifications preferred.
