The role
We are looking for an experienced Senior Accessibility Consultant to join our Access and Inclusive Consultancy team within our Movement & Place business. The role is based in London or, if preferred, at another of our UK offices in Cambridge, Epsom, Bristol, Cardiff, Birmingham or Manchester.
We work across a wide range of accessibility and inclusive design markets, helping clients create environments that are intuitive, safe and accessible for all users. Our experience spans rail, public transport, aviation, active travel, streets and public realm, buildings and major regeneration projects. Recent examples include the Department for Transport’s National Rail Station Accessibility Audits, through which we assessed accessibility across the UK rail network; and inclusive public realm schemes such as Edinburgh’s George Street regeneration and the Oxford Street Transformation. Through these projects, we apply user-centred design, accessibility auditing, stakeholder engagement and inclusive design principles to create places and services that work for people of a wide range of needs and lived experiences.
Working across projects of varying scales, including nationally significant programmes, you’ll help our clients identify effective solutions that meet their accessibility, inclusive design and equality responsibilities. Alongside working directly with external clients, you’ll collaborate with other AtkinsRéalis teams to deliver projects, including our Human Factors, Landscape, Urban Design and Building Design teams.
Your role
You will take ownership of the management and technical delivery of accessibility and inclusive design projects, working independently while drawing on support from the wider team. You will build trusted client relationships, provide clear and practical advice, and help multidisciplinary teams achieve high-quality accessibility outcomes.
As part of our growing Access and Inclusive Consultancy team, you will:
- Lead accessibility commissions, managing scope, programme, budget, resources and quality.
- Deliver accessibility audits, access appraisals and inclusive design reviews across a range of built-environment sectors.
- Provide authoritative technical advice and review drawings, plans and other design information.
- Build effective relationships with clients, design teams and stakeholders.
- Apply sound judgement and a solutions-focused approach to complex accessibility challenges.
- Support technical assurance by checking work and guiding less-experienced colleagues.
- Prepare methodologies, fee proposals and other bid inputs.
- Contribute to business development, service growth and the continued improvement of our technical practices.
- Maintain AtkinsRéalis quality standards and professional expertise by keeping abreast of emerging accessibility legislation, standards, guidance and inclusive design practice.
About you
Applicants will be expected to demonstrate experience and capability in the following:

- Relevant degree, professional qualification or equivalent demonstrable experience.
- Strong knowledge of relevant accessibility and inclusive design legislation, standards and guidance.
- Experience undertaking accessibility audits, access appraisals and inclusive design reviews across relevant built-environment sectors.
- Ability to interpret drawings, plans and technical design information and provide authoritative accessibility advice.
- Ability to lead projects independently, managing scope, programme, budget, resources and quality to achieve successful delivery and client satisfaction.
- Experience delegating, checking and reviewing technical work and supporting less-experienced colleagues.
- Strong communication and stakeholder-engagement skills, with experience working effectively with clients, multidisciplinary design teams and stakeholder groups.
- Experience preparing methodologies, fee proposals and other bid inputs.
- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work collaboratively and independently within programme and budget constraints.
- A demonstrable commitment to inclusive design and improving accessibility outcomes.
Desirable
- NRAC membership, eligibility or a clear intention to work towards registration.
- Relevant built-environment professional membership.
- Broader business-development, networking and service-development experience.
- Experience across several relevant sectors or disciplines.
- Interest in contributing to, or developing experience across, wider Movement & Place technical disciplines.
