About this role

Klarna, briefly At Klarna, we’re building an everyday finance network, helping over 120 million consumers across 26 countries save time and money, and worry less about their finances. Working here means taking on problems most companies never get to solve, and being hands-on enough that the interesting part of the work lands with you, not someone else — you’ll build with AI, not watch it happen. This is the stretch zone. Come find out what you’re capable of. About the role Klarna’s payments and consumer credit business is regulated under PSD2, the Consumer Credit Directive, outsourcing and third-party oversight requirements, AML/CFT rules, and GDPR. Someone has to check, independently of the business, that the controls Klarna relies on to meet those requirements work in practice and not just on paper. In this position, that’s you. You’ll sit in the Compliance Testing Team, part of Klarna’s second line of defense, and act as the team’s EU regulatory subject matter expert. When a testing question turns on what a directive or EBA guideline requires, colleagues will look to you for the answer. The team tests with data and automation as much as with interviews and documents. You’ll work in a setting where analysing a full data population is the expectation, and sampling by hand is the fallback. What you’ll do You’ll own each test from start to finish: scoping it, drafting the testing script, running stakeholder interviews and fieldwork, reporting the results, and following up on findings. You’ll assess both the design and the operating effectiveness of controls against EU requirements, EBA and other European Supervisory Authority guidance, and Klarna’s internal governing documents. You’ll account for national implementation in the markets where Klarna operates when it changes what a control has to achieve. You’ll deliver your testing in line with the team’s annual testing plan. You’ll use data analysis, automation, and AI-enabled tools to scope and sample tests, and you’ll analyse full data populations where possible instead of relying only on manual samples. You’ll help build and maintain repeatable automated tests and monitoring. You’ll write reports that set out findings, risks, and recommendations clearly enough for senior management to act on them. You’ll track compliance observations from testing through to corrective action and close them on time. You’ll act as the main contact for business and compliance stakeholders throughout a test, and support them as they implement corrective actions. Who you are You’ve spent at least 3 years in compliance testing, compliance monitoring, or internal or external audit within financial services, fintech, banking, or payments, and you understand how second line of defense functions identify and mitigate risk. You’ve designed or run testing scripts, audit programs, or structured review methodologies, including scoping, sampling, and evidence-based assessment. You know the EU regulatory landscape for payments and consumer credit, and you’ve tested or audited against at least one of PSD2, the Consumer Credit Directive, EBA outsourcing and third-party oversight guidelines, AML/CFT requirements, or GDPR. You query and validate testing data yourself, using SQL, Python, or BI and dashboarding tools. You’ve applied AI or automation to compliance work, or you’re keen to, and you check AI-generated outputs critically before relying on them. You write clear, concise reports in English and present findings to stakeholders with confidence. You ask sharp questions, challenge assumptions, and let evidence drive your conclusions, while keeping several high-priority tests on schedule without losing accuracy. Bonus points for Working knowledge of how EU requirements are implemented and supervised in at least one EU Member State, and familiarity with how national competent authorities and the European Supervisory Authorities approach supervision. Awareness of PSD3 and PSR developments. Things you should know before applying Working together: we value co-located teams; most teams currently meet in the office 2–3 days per week, and this varies by team and can change over time. Non-obvious backgrounds are welcome. Diversity of skills, perspectives and backgrounds is how we create, innovate, and disrupt like no other. Final compensation will be based on the candidate’s qualifications, skills, and experience. Please include a CV in English. Concrete beats comprehensive, what you built, what it did, what it cost.
