About this role

Location: Germantown, MD

Business Unit: DRS RADA Technologies

Schedule: 9/80

Shift: First

Job ID: 115700

DRS RADA Technologies, a subsidiary of Leonardo DRS, is focused on proprietary radar solutions and legacy avionics systems supporting the defense industry globally. The company is a global pioneer of AESA tactical radars for active military protection, counter-drone applications, critical infrastructure protection, and border surveillance.

About the Role:

DRS RADA Technologies is seeking a full-time, on-site Senior Software Engineer to design, build, and maintain modern front-end applications and full-stack features for mission-critical radar and defense systems. This role is ideal for an engineer with strong TypeScript and modern front-end application skills who can help lead user-facing development while bringing enough computer science foundation to work across our application and backend environment. Prior Rust, radar, or defense experience is helpful but not required. We value strong software fundamentals, systems curiosity, and the ability to learn complex technical domains.

What You Will Do:

- Design, build, test, debug, and maintain front-end applications and full-stack features that support mission-critical radar and defense systems.

- Develop user-facing application features using TypeScript, React, and related front-end technologies.

- Help shape application structure, reusable components, state management, asynchronous data handling, testing practices, and maintainability.

- Integrate user interfaces with backend services, REST APIs, data sources, messaging-based interfaces, and system workflows.

- Collaborate with backend, Linux, systems, integration, and test engineers to turn complex requirements into usable and reliable software features.

- Debug issues across the application stack, including UI behavior, API/service interactions, asynchronous data flow, deployment configuration, and system integration.

- Build working competence with the team’s Linux-based backend environment, including Rust-based services, to support full-stack feature development and cross-layer debugging.

- Contribute to code reviews, software design discussions, testing, documentation, production delivery, and mentoring of junior engineers.

What You Bring:

- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, computer engineering, or a related technical field, plus at least five years of relevant software engineering experience, or equivalent experience.

- Strong experience developing production user interfaces using TypeScript and a modern component-based framework such as React, React Native, or Angular.

- Experience designing, building, testing, debugging, and maintaining complex user-facing application features from user workflows, CONOPS, or limited requirements.

- Experience integrating front-end applications with backend services, APIs, data sources, or system workflows.

- Experience with at least one backend or general-purpose programming language such as Python, C#, Java, Node.js, Go, C, C++, Rust, or similar.

- Experience or coursework involving compiled or systems-level languages and concepts such as memory management, concurrency, networking, operating systems, or debugging.

- Experience using Git and working in a collaborative software development environment.

- Ability to learn complex technical domains, communicate clearly, mentor less experienced engineers, and collaborate across software, systems, integration, and test teams.

- U.S. citizenship is required.

What This Role Is Not:

- This is not a content-focused or generic web application role. The work is focused on interactive application features, tools, workflows, and interfaces for mission-critical radar and defense systems.

- This is not a pure front-end role or the team’s primary Linux/Rust/networking specialist role. The role is front-end/full-stack focused, with enough backend familiarity to work effectively across the application stack.

- This is not a remote position. This full-time role is based on-site in Germantown, Maryland, where close collaboration with software, systems, hardware, integration, and test teams is essential.

- This is not software developed in isolation. You will work within a cross-functional team and contribute to applications that must be usable, reliable, and maintainable in demanding real-world defense environments.

What We Bring:

At DRS RADA Technologies, your work supports technologies that help protect military personnel, critical infrastructure, and communities around the world. You will join a mission-driven team developing advanced radar technology that supports system performance and real-world defense applications.
