Forward Deployed AI Engineer

About the role

Aliz is a Google Cloud partner that builds data, AI and application solutions for enterprise clients. We are building a team of Forward Deployed AI Engineers: expert AI agent developers who work inside the client's organisation as a one-person team, find where AI can help, and build and hand over the solution themselves.

A Forward Deployed Engineer is embedded in the client's environment for the length of an engagement, typically one to three months. You sit with the client's teams, often several departments at once, understand how they work, and solve their problems, whether the problem is technical, a business question or a broken process. A solution architect designs and sells a solution and then hands it to a delivery team. In this role you do both: you assess the problem, build the solution, and stay until the client's people understand it, use it and can run it without you.

Because engagements are short, you will work on several of them in a year, and sometimes on more than one topic at the same time. The solutions are not tied to one product or vendor. One engagement may be an agentic workflow built into a client's process, another may be applied research with small language models, a third may be helping a team use AI tools such as Claude or Gemini properly in their daily work. You often start in a domain you have not worked in before, and you are expected to get productive in it quickly.

What you will do

- Work on site with client teams to understand their technical, business and process problems and the constraints around them.
- Assess where AI agents make a measurable difference, and agree with the client how success will be measured.
- Design and build the solution end to end: agentic workflows, LLM-based applications, integrations with the client's systems, or experiments where the answer is not yet known.
- Take solutions beyond the proof of concept: get them into use by the client's teams and show the impact with numbers.
- Hand the solution over: document it, train the people who will use and maintain it, and help the client adopt it.
- Bring an AI-first way of working into the client's teams, and show them by example how to build with AI agents and tools.
- Bring what you learn back to Aliz, so the next engagement starts from a reusable solution rather than from zero.

What we expect

- Expert AI agent developer. You design, build and evaluate system with AI agents at an expert level, you build with coding agents every day, and you try new models and frameworks when they come out. You can deliver an engagement on your own, as a one-person team, with Aliz architects and project managers supporting you in the background.
- A proven track record with measurable impact. You have solved real problems or sped up real work with AI agents, and someone measured the result. We look for results more mature than a proof of concept: solutions that went into use. The domain is open, and a data science background is not required.
- Customer facing. You understand and assess the client's problem, solve it, and hand the solution over. You explain technical results and their limits in plain language to engineers and managers, and you can teach others to own what you built.
- Flexible. We place you in the client's environment, where many things are outside our control. Priorities, people and plans change, and you adapt to them calmly. You are comfortable switching between engagements and running more than one topic at a time.
- Broad engineering experience. Senior level, with exposure to several areas such as application development, data and infrastructure, so you can work with whatever the client already has.
- On-site availability. You can work at client sites regularly, and travel when the client is outside Budapest.
- Language: fluent English is required, fluent Hungarian and German are a plus.

Nice to have

- Data science or machine learning background (model training, fine-tuning, evaluation).
- Google Cloud experience, including Vertex AI / Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform incl Gemini Enterprise App.
- Experience with agent frameworks such as Google ADK or LangGraph.
- Consulting or forward deployed experience at other companies.
