About this role

Job Title: MEP Drafter Job Description
We are seeking an experienced MEP Drafter to support mechanical, electrical, and plumbing projects by producing high-quality, well-coordinated construction documents from engineer and project manager sketches, markups, and redlines. This drafting-focused role is ideal for someone who enjoys collaborating with engineers, coordinating between trades, and working efficiently within both AutoCAD and Revit environments. The position is fully remote within the United States and offers flexible working hours, with a strong emphasis on meeting deadlines and delivering accurate, constructible drawings.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and revise mechanical, electrical, and plumbing construction drawings based on sketches, markups, and direction from engineers and project managers.
- Draft and model MEP systems in AutoCAD and Revit, working in a roughly 50/50 split between both platforms.
- Coordinate drawings across mechanical, electrical, and plumbing disciplines to ensure consistency, alignment, and awareness of potential clashes.
- Set up project files and templates efficiently, including establishing Revit project infrastructure and initial software setup for new projects.
- Review drawings for accuracy, constructability, and coordination before submission to ensure they meet project standards and requirements.
- Actively communicate with engineers, project managers, and other team members to clarify design intent and resolve drafting issues.
- Support project deadlines through organized, efficient drafting practices and effective time management.
- Contribute to the development and refinement of drafting standards and workflows as the drafting department grows.
- Collaborate with the broader project team in a remote environment, maintaining clear and consistent communication throughout the project lifecycle.
Essential Skills
- At least 2 years of MEP drafting experience across mechanical, electrical, and plumbing disciplines.
- Experience working within an MEP consulting firm or similar environment focused on building systems design.
- Proficiency in both AutoCAD and Revit, with the ability to work comfortably in a 50/50 split between the two platforms.
- Hands-on experience coordinating drawings across multiple MEP disciplines, with a strong focus on interdisciplinary coordination rather than a single discipline.
- Strong understanding of construction document workflows and MEP drawing standards.
- Ability to set up initial project infrastructure within AutoCAD and Revit, including project files, templates, and Revit project structure.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a remote, team-based environment.
- Demonstrated experience in design and drafting for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
- Experience with mechanical drafting and mechanical design, including HVAC and HVAC design.
- Experience with plumbing design and detailing for building systems.
- Experience with electrical design and detailing for building systems.
- Proficiency in 3D design and Revit MEP workflows for modeling building systems.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience supporting engineers and project managers by translating design intent into clear, detailed construction documents.
- Ability to identify and address potential clashes and coordination issues across MEP disciplines within drawings and models.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate, constructible, and well-organized drawings.
- Interest in growing with a developing drafting department and contributing to process improvements and standards.
- Motivation to expand responsibilities over time, including potential involvement in engineering-related tasks as experience grows.
- Comfort working independently in a remote setting while maintaining strong collaboration and communication with the project team.
Work Environment
This position is 100% remote and can be performed from anywhere within the United States. The role is drafting-focused and relies heavily on AutoCAD and Revit, with work divided approximately equally between both platforms. The work environment is very flexible, emphasizing an 8-hour workday without strict requirements on specific working hours, as long as deadlines are met and communication with the team remains consistent. The team culture is highly collaborative, with opportunities to help build and shape a growing MEP drafting department and to become involved in engineering work as responsibilities expand.
