About the Role

We’re hiring a robot operator to join Rovex as a Robot Operations Technician supporting our hospital deployment in Clearwater, Florida.

Rovex builds robotic systems that help hospitals move equipment and resources throughout their facilities. In this role, you’ll walk alongside Rovi, our mobile robotic platform, and use a remote controller to control every aspect of its movement as it travels through hospital hallways, doorways, and elevators.

During this phase of deployment, Rovi moves only in response to correct operator input. You will be responsible for controlling its direction, speed, starting, stopping, turning, positioning, and movement around people and equipment. This is an active, hands-on driving role that requires strong spatial awareness, precise control, sound judgment, and sustained attention.

Your work will include remotely guiding Rovi as it returns empty stretchers to the emergency department, moves linen carts between designated locations, and follows routes for hospital mapping and evaluation.

We’re looking for someone with good driving and maneuvering skills who learns technology quickly, follows procedures carefully, and stays attentive while performing repeated tasks. An engineering degree and previous professional robotics experience are not required. Rovex will provide training.

The current role involves transporting equipment and materials only. It does not involve transporting patients or providing clinical care.

What You’ll Do

Remotely Drive and Control Rovi

- Use a remote controller to control every aspect of Rovi’s movement throughout assigned hospital areas.
- Control starting, stopping, speed, direction, turns, and positioning using approved operating procedures.
- Walk alongside Rovi and maintain direct awareness of the robot, its load, and the surrounding environment.
- Navigate hallways, doorways, turns, elevators, and other constrained spaces.
- Maintain awareness of staff, patients, visitors, and surrounding equipment.
- Stop, wait, or reposition Rovi whenever a route or operating condition is unclear.
- Follow assigned routes, operating limits, and safety checklists.

Complete Equipment and Linen Transport Tasks

- Attach and detach Rovi from compatible empty stretchers and linen carts using approved procedures.
- Check that attachments are secure before beginning a transport.
- Return empty stretchers from designated hospital areas to the emergency department or other assigned locations.
- Deliver filled linen carts and retrieve or exchange empty carts as directed.
- Confirm that equipment reaches the correct destination and coordinate handoffs with designated hospital staff.

Support Mapping and Deployment Evaluation

- Remotely operate Rovi along assigned routes to support hospital mapping and route validation.
- Repeat tasks consistently to help evaluate performance under different hospital conditions.
- Record completed tasks, operating time, delays, interventions, and unexpected behavior.
- Provide practical feedback about routes, workflows, controls, and equipment handling.

Keep the Robot Ready and Report Issues

- Complete pre-shift checks and assist with charging, staging, and approved cleaning procedures.
- Perform basic troubleshooting within the scope of your training.
- Document problems clearly and promptly report them to the Rovex integrations engineer.
- Include useful details such as the location, task, control input, observed behavior, and sequence of events.
- Provide clear shift handoffs, including equipment status and unresolved issues.

Work Professionally in the Hospital

- Coordinate pickups, deliveries, and equipment handoffs with designated staff.
- Communicate courteously and minimize disruption to hospital operations.
- Follow hospital access, privacy, infection prevention, and safety procedures.
- Protect confidential Rovex and hospital information, including technical details, deployment results, and any patient information encountered during work.

Requirements

What We’re Looking For

- Strong driving, maneuvering, and spatial-awareness skills, including the ability to judge distance, clearance, speed, and turning space.
- Ability to operate a remote controller smoothly and precisely while walking alongside the robot.
- Ability to maintain continuous focus in busy hospital areas around staff, patients, visitors, doors, elevators, and equipment.
- Strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and awareness of your surroundings.
- Reliable attendance and a dependable commitment to an agreed shift schedule.
- Comfort learning unfamiliar technology and operating controls.
- Patience with repetitive work and the ability to maintain consistent focus.
- Ability to follow instructions, checklists, and safety procedures without taking shortcuts.
- Clear written and verbal communication, including accurate task logs and issue reports.
- Ability to work independently after training, with a Rovex integrations engineer available on-site or remotely.
- Availability for the shifts associated with the position, which may include overnights, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to attend initial paid training in Gainesville, Florida.
- Ability to complete applicable hospital onboarding and access requirements, including a background check and drug screening.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

This role takes place in an active hospital and involves substantial walking and periods of standing throughout assigned shifts. Most physical activity consists of walking alongside Rovi while operating it with a remote controller, with occasional bending, reaching, and positioning equipment during attachment and transport tasks.

Candidates must be able to perform these essential duties with or without reasonable accommodation. Rovex provides training on safe equipment handling and operating procedures.

Helpful but Not Required

- Experience in hospital transport, hospital logistics, warehouse operations, technical support, or equipment operations.
- Experience with robotics, drones, remotely operated equipment, electronics, or product testing.
- Experience driving, maneuvering, or precisely positioning vehicles or equipment.
- Experience recording task results or reporting technical problems.

Previous professional robotics experience is not required.

Training and Support

Initial training takes place in Gainesville, Florida. Training is paid, and Rovex covers required training travel and lodging.

You’ll receive supervised instruction in remote robot operation, equipment attachments, safety procedures, task documentation, and issue reporting before operating independently.

After training, you’ll complete assigned tasks with support from a Rovex integrations engineer who may be on-site or available remotely. Assignments may also include other BayCare locations, with location and travel expectations communicated in advance.

Schedule Details

Full-time, part-time, and PRN (as-needed) opportunities are available.

- Shifts will not exceed eight hours.
- Assigned shifts may include days, overnights, weekends, and holidays.
- Fixed rotations will be posted well in advance for regularly scheduled positions.
- PRN shifts will be arranged based on operational needs and agreed availability.

Shift assignments and the applicable differential and holiday-pay rules will be provided before accepting an offer.

Employer-sponsored health insurance is not currently offered.

Why This Role Matters

Every completed transport helps Rovex understand how Rovi performs in an active hospital. Your precise operation, reliable attendance, and clear feedback will help improve the system’s reliability and usefulness for hospital teams.

Growth Opportunities

This role offers a path for growth as Rovex expands its hospital operations. Technicians who demonstrate reliable performance, strong operating skills, sound judgment, and clear communication may have opportunities to advance into a Lead Operator role.

Lead Operators may help train new technicians, coordinate shifts, promote consistent operating practices, and support communication between operators and the engineering team.
