About this role
Description
Do you have a passion for protecting data and ensuring compliance at scale? We are looking for a detail-oriented Support Engineers to join our data protection team, where you will investigate access to Amazon's most sensitive and regulated data. You will independently review SQL queries, access logs, and large datasets to determine compliance with policies and standard operating procedures, making clear determinations that protect customer trust and data integrity.
In this role, you will combine technical investigation skills with stakeholder engagement, interpreting complex access patterns and coaching teams on compliant data handling. You will evaluate access requests against data-handling policies, document findings with clarity and precision, and escalate high-risk cases with sound judgment. This is an opportunity to apply your analytical expertise to meaningful work that safeguards data across one of the world's largest technology platforms.
Key job responsibilities
- Investigate access to sensitive data by reviewing SQL queries and access records to determine what data was accessed and whether that access is compliant with policies and standard operating procedures
- Interpret dashboards, logs, and large code and data sets to reach clear compliance determinations, applying analytical reasoning to identify patterns and assess risk
- Engage stakeholders and other Amazon employees to understand access behavior, remediate non-compliant practices, and share best practices that help them maintain compliance and keep data access safe
- Process access requests to protected data, evaluating internal use cases against data-sharing and data-handling policies to ensure appropriate access controls
- Document investigation findings clearly and concisely, articulating impact, the steps taken, and the current state of each case, and escalate complex or high-risk findings with sound judgment following information security guidelines
A day in the life
Much of your day is investigative work: reviewing SQL queries and access records to determine what data was accessed and whether that access is compliant with policy and standard operating procedures. Some investigations involve engaging stakeholders to understand access, remediate behavior, and coach them on compliance best practices. You will process requests for access to protected data, evaluating use cases against data-handling policy. Where needed, you will write queries to validate findings across datasets. As you build expertise, you will resolve cases independently and seek guidance from experienced engineers when cases are complex or findings are high-risk.
This role includes occasional on-call responsibilities.
