About this role
Description
Amazon’s Global Medical & Health (GMH) team is seeking a licensed physician to serve as Sub-Regional Medical Lead (SRML) for a geographic cluster of approximately to 10 Amazon sites in Mexico. This role is the designated clinical authority and Sanitary Officer —in accordance with the General Health Law and its applicable regulations— for all occupational medical services within the assigned sub-region, providing physician-level supervision of On-Site Medical Representatives (OMR)—Licensed Nurses and Nursing Technicians—and ensuring compliance with Mexican federal health and labor regulations.
The SRML addresses a critical regulatory gap: the Federal Labor Law (Article 504), NOM-019-SSA3-2013, and COFEPRIS requirements mandate continuous physician-led clinical supervision at each site. This role directly fulfills that obligation, serving as the authorized signatory for Operational Notices, nursing supervision per NOM-019-SSA3-2013, and all COFEPRIS regulatory documentation within the assigned zone.
You will work with the Regional Medical Lead to implement evidence-based health programs and standardize clinical protocols. You will supervise OMR teams and drive improvements in associate health outcomes and regulatory compliance posture.
They will assist with the implementation of programs at the site level, reporting directly to the Regional Medical Lead.
Key job responsibilities
As the Regional Occupational Health Physician, you will serve as the designated Sanitary Officer and clinical authority for all sites within your assigned sub-region. Your core responsibilities include:
Regulatory Compliance: Serve as the designated Sanitary Officer under the General Health Law and COFEPRIS requirements. Sign and maintain Operational Notices and regulatory documentation, ensure compliance with applicable NOMs and labor/health laws, conduct compliance audits, attend regulatory inspections, and safeguard clinical records and personal data.
Clinical Supervision of OMR Operations: Provide direct physician supervision (NOM-019-SSA3-2013) to nursing staff in AMCARE spaces, act as the clinical authority for diagnoses, restrictions, and prescriptions, oversee daily OMR activities, and review Return-to-Work plans, fitness-for-duty determinations, and workplace accident management.
Medication Governance: Establish a formal medication approval process aligned with COFEPRIS, standardize formularies across the sub-region, approve clinical protocols for medication administration, and audit medication and controlled-substance records.
Epidemiological Surveillance & Prevention: Execute occupational surveillance programs, implement prevention campaigns based on regional data, lead vaccination and early-detection drives, and support heat-stress and exposure-control strategies in coordination with WHS.
Medical Surveillance & Occupational Health Exams: Support surveillance programs (NOM-030-STPS-2009 / RFSST), periodic health exams, pre-employment and fitness-for-duty assessments, biological monitoring, and PPE compliance, while ensuring medical record confidentiality.
OMR Team Development: Mentor and train OMR staff, standardize clinical protocols and documentation across the sub-region, and ensure competency in emergency equipment, inventory management, and Safety and Hygiene Committee participation.
Strategic Leadership: Participate in Monthly Business Reviews, collaborate with WHS, PXT, Operations, and Legal, support the Regional Medical Lead's national agenda, and drive improvements in associate health outcomes and attrition mitigation.
This role requires regular travel (60–80%) within the assigned sub-region of Mexico.
A day in the life
No two days look exactly alike in this role, but here's a glimpse of what yours might involve:
You start your morning reviewing overnight incident reports and care statistics across the sites in your sub-region. A workplace injury was logged at one location last night, so you connect with the OMR nurse on site to review the initial care documentation, confirm the ST-7 was properly managed, and begin coordinating a Return-to-Work plan that aligns the associate's medical restrictions with available job functions.
Mid-morning, you travel to one of your assigned sites for a scheduled compliance audit. Walking the AMCARE space, you verify that the infrastructure and equipment meet NOM-005-SSA3-2018 requirements, review clinical records for traceability and retention compliance, and spot-check medication logs and controlled-substance documentation. You identify a minor deviation in the formulary and work with the nursing staff on a corrective action plan on the spot.
Over lunch, you join a remote Monthly Business Review, presenting your sub-region's health metrics, injury/illness trends, and compliance status to leadership — and flagging an emerging musculoskeletal trend that you recommend addressing with a targeted ergonomics prevention campaign.
In the afternoon, you provide clinical supervision and mentorship to the OMR team: reviewing a complex fitness-for-duty case that exceeds their scope, validating a medical clearance for work at heights, and running a short teaching session on NOM-035 mental health screening and referral pathways. You close the day collaborating with WHS and PXT colleagues on a heat-stress mitigation strategy for the upcoming season, and reviewing a Privacy Notice update to ensure associate health data stays protected.
Throughout it all, you are the clinical and regulatory anchor for your region — balancing hands-on physician leadership with the strategic, preventive, and compliance work that keeps associates healthy and sites compliant.
