About this role
About the team
Materials Regulatory Compliance owns chemical compliance for Reality Labs hardware — wearables, headsets, accessories and packaging. We determine which substance restrictions, disclosure/reporting duties, and marking obligations apply in every market we ship to, and hold the evidence that proves it: supplier declarations, lab reports, waivers, and regulatory filings. This is an evidence-heavy, transactional role focused on structuring data, maintaining records, and surfacing gaps for analyst/SME review.
What you'll get out of it
Hands-on understanding of how global chemical regulation lands on a shipping consumer product — from statute, through supplier data and lab testing, to a mark on a box — working across analysts, packaging engineering, legal, and external labs.
Responsibilities
Log supplier declarations/certificates of compliance; check completeness and flag gaps for review
Maintain program, regulation, and waiver trackers — expiries, open actions, ownership, duplicates
Extract substance, method, and result data from third-party lab reports into structured records
Log packaging artwork proofs, record market footprints and required marks, and route to analysts
Run coverage and gap analyses across document repositories
Document repeatable processes and propose automation candidates
Structure, reconcile, and analyze data in spreadsheets using lookups and advanced formulas
Qualifications
Currently pursuing a Master's or PhD in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science/Engineering, or a related field
Working proficiency with spreadsheets — structuring data, lookups, and reconciliation
Demonstrated accuracy working through large document sets or datasets
Clear written communication, including accurate technical summaries with source citations
Must obtain work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment
Intent to return to full-time degree program after completion of the internship Coursework or exposure to chemical compliance (e.g., substance restrictions) or extended producer responsibility (EPR)
Experience using Python, SQL, or AI-assisted tools to extract and structure data from unstructured documents
Familiarity with PLM systems, BOMs, or engineering change processes
Exposure to analytical chemistry methods and outputs (e.g., ICP-OES, GC-MS, ion chromatography)
