Position Purpose
The 5-Star Cake Decorator is responsible for creating, decorating, and finishing high-quality cakes and specialty bakery items that exceed customer expectations. This position combines advanced cake decorating skills, creativity, excellent customer service, and a commitment to food safety and quality standards. The 5-Star Cake Decorator serves as a bakery expert, helping drive sales through exceptional product presentation, customization, and execution.
Key Responsibilities
Cake Decorating & Production
- Design, decorate, and finish custom cakes, cupcakes, cookies, and specialty bakery items.
- Execute customer orders accurately and within established timelines.
- Create cakes for birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, graduations, holidays, and other special occasions.
- Apply advanced decorating techniques including piping, borders, flowers, lettering, airbrushing, and specialty finishes.
- Ensure products meet company quality standards and customer specifications.
- Maintain consistency in decoration, appearance, and presentation.
Customer Service
- Consult with customers regarding cake designs, flavors, themes, and customization options.
- Provide recommendations that enhance the customer experience and increase sales.
- Resolve customer concerns professionally and promptly.
- Promote bakery products and special-order opportunities.
Merchandising & Sales
- Create visually appealing displays that drive bakery sales.
- Ensure decorated cakes and bakery products are adequately stocked and rotated.
- Assist with seasonal merchandising programs and promotional displays.
- Suggest additional bakery items and upsell products when appropriate.
Food Safety & Compliance
- Follow all food safety, sanitation, and health department regulations.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Properly store ingredients and finished products to ensure freshness and quality.
- Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and bakery operating standards.
Team Support
- Assist bakery team members with production and customer service as needed.
- Support training and mentoring of new decorators and bakery associates.
- Collaborate with department leadership to ensure production goals are met.
- Maintain effective communication with bakery management regarding inventory, special orders, and production needs.
