Join our colleagues in bringing our Mission to life every single day to enable our customers to make the world healthier, cleaner and safer. We provide our global teams with the resources needed to achieve individual career goals while helping to take science a step beyond by developing solutions for some of the world’s toughest challenges, like protecting the environment, making sure our food is safe or helping find cures for cancer.

Provide strategic financial and business leadership for the Molecular Biology Business Unit (~$1B in revenue) within the Biosciences Division. As a key member of the Molecular Biology Leadership Team, this role will serve as a strategic partner to the Vice President & General Manager, with a particular focus on improving the mid- and long-term health, competitiveness, and value creation potential of the Molecular Biology portfolio.

Bring financial insight and commercial judgment to the decisions that shape a business. In this role, you’ll partner with the Vice President & General Manager and Molecular Biology Leadership Team to turn strategy into clear portfolio choices, investment priorities, and action.

You’ll help set the long-range growth agenda, guide resource allocation, and strengthen business performance. Success means helping leaders make better decisions, advance strategic priorities, and improve portfolio and business outcomes.

What you’ll do

- Serve as a strategic thought partner to the VP & GM and Molecular Biology Leadership Team, shaping business strategy, long-range growth plans, the portfolio roadmap, and value creation priorities.
- Connect financial performance with market growth, customer trends, competitive position, innovation, pricing, product lifecycle, profitability, and strategic fit to assess and improve portfolio health.
- Lead and mentor local finance teams and operating partners, building their skills and strengthening their business perspective.
- Work with the leadership team to lead strategic planning, annual operating plans, and quarterly and monthly portfolio health and business reviews. Turn discussions into clear choices, actions, owners, milestones, and expected outcomes, then follow through to completion.
- Partner with R&D and Product Management to improve innovation investment decisions, including business cases, portfolio priorities, stage-gate decisions, launch economics, post-launch performance, and whether to accelerate, redirect, or discontinue investments.
- Work with commercial colleagues to develop and model major customer deals and support contract compliance.
- Maintain strong financial stewardship through accurate forecasts and reporting, timely compliance with the corporate reporting calendar, adherence to local accounting standards and US GAAP, and effective internal controls.

What you’ll bring

- A record of partnering strategically with senior leaders, combining financial expertise with commercial judgment and the ability to influence important business and investment decisions.
- Experience assessing business and product portfolios, including growth potential, competitive position, profitability, innovation investment, product lifecycle economics, and resource allocation.
- The ability to turn complex financial, market, and operational information into clear recommendations and actions.
- Strong understanding of sustainable value creation in a P&L-accountable business, including revenue growth, market share, pricing, gross margin, innovation productivity, return on investment, resource allocation, and cash generation.
- Experience developing business cases and financial models for product development, portfolio investments, acquisitions, capital deployment, lifecycle decisions, and strategic growth initiatives.
- A track record of moving from insight to execution by establishing clear actions, accountability, milestones, and operating practices that improve business outcomes.
- Proven ability to recruit, develop, and lead high-performing teams, including finance talent with strong business partnering and strategic skills.
- Excellent communication, executive presentation, and analytical skills.
- Leadership and initiative that reflect Thermo Fisher Scientific’s 4i values: Integrity, Intensity, Innovation, and Involvement.

Education and experience

- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, economics, business, or another relevant analytical field
- MBA or equivalent preferred
- 10 or more years of progressively responsible experience in a global organization
- 5 or more years of management experience
