Job Description

Location/Division Specific Information:

Olink, part of Thermo Fisher Scientific, is dedicated to advancing the understanding of human disease through proteomics. Olink panels provide innovative, high-quality solutions for human protein biomarker discovery, enabling researchers to measure thousands of proteins simultaneously from just a few microliters of blood. Using highly specific and thoroughly validated assays with a wide dynamic range, Olink’s technology overcomes traditional limitations in protein analysis and supports deeper insights into human biology and disease.

Job description:

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Development Engineer III to join our Assay Screening section. In this role, you will work with assay screening, optimization and method development, combining hands-on laboratory work with data analysis, documentation and continuous improvement.

You will take responsibility for your own activities while working closely with colleagues within the team and across functions providing technical expertise and helping translate experimental results into clear conclusions and recommendations. The role also includes supporting colleagues and participating in the development of new methods, processes and concepts.

The position is based at our Uppsala site and reports to the Manager, Assay Screening.

A Day in the Life:

- Lead, plan, perform, analyze and document assay screening, optimization and development activities.
- Design and perform PEA experiments using qPCR and NGS as readouts.

- Analyze experimental data, draw conclusions and recommend next steps.
- Contribute technical expertise and take an active role in technical discussions, troubleshooting and decision-making within assay development.

- Develop and improve methods, workflows, procedures, protocols and SOPs.
- Lead and contribute to improvement activities related to laboratory workflows, documentation, automation, quality and efficiency.
- Contribute to and, where appropriate, lead evaluation and development of new concepts and technical solutions.
- Share knowledge and provide technical guidance to colleagues.
- Collaborate with colleagues across teams and functions to achieve common goals.

- M.Sc. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Immunotechnology, Proteomics or a related life-science field, or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of relevant industry experience in laboratory-based development, method development, molecular diagnostics, protein detection or related areas.

- Experience independently planning and carrying out development activities and solving technical problems.
- Good knowledge of molecular biology, proteomics and immunology.

- Hands-on experience with relevant techniques, including immunoassays, PCR/qPCR, and NGS.
- Experience in data analysis and visualization using statistical tools. Knowledge of and experience with R scripting is an advantage.

- Ability to interpret complex experimental data and communicate conclusions and recommendations clearly.
- Experience with laboratory automation, liquid-handling systems or conjugation chemistries is an advantage.

Skills and Attributes

- Analytical and structured, with a practical approach to problem-solving.
- Comfortable taking responsibility and working independently while being a collaborative team member.
- Good communication skills and ability to explain technical topics clearly.
- Experience sharing knowledge and supporting colleagues in their technical development.

- Team-oriented, with the ability to take initiative and manage several activities and priorities in parallel.
- Good written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Curious and interested in new technologies, systems, automation, digital tools and AI.

To succeed in this role, you enjoy combining practical laboratory work with analysis and problem-solving. You are collaborative, open to new ideas, and take ownership of your work with a strong sense of accountability and self-leadership. You contribute to a positive working environment where we learn from each other and continuously improve how we work.
