About this role

Tesla is looking for an experienced, collaborative Quality Engineering Manager to lead our Powertrain Data Analytics, Quality systems and Material Review board quality teams at the GFNV site. In this role, you will build a world-class quality organization—including data engineering and analytics capabilities—to enable Tesla to deliver safe, reliable powertrains that accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy. You will own the strategy and execution of Material Review Board (MRB) processes, data architecture, data pipelines, and analytics that deliver insights for our operations and customers.

You will lead a team of engineers, associate managers, supervisors, and technicians while partnering closely with cross-functional stakeholders to turn complex issues into actionable insights. Your work will directly improve product quality, identify failure modes through data, optimize processes, and drive continuous improvement.

- Lead the MRB review process and cross-functional collaboration: Own and coordinate reviews of nonconforming materials with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality teams. Ensure timely, data-driven dispositions, communicate findings across departments, drive process improvements, and lead the quality material review board team of technicians, supervisors, and engineers to support production needs with consistent standard work and training
- Direct root cause analysis (RCA) using 5M/5Why/8D and professional problem-solving: Lead structured methodologies across the team to identify true causes of defects in production and the field. Define and track preventive/corrective actions, mentor engineers, identify bottlenecks, and optimize processes
- Lead, mentor, and grow a team of Quality and Data Engineers: Set the technical vision, establish high coding standards, documentation practices, and engineering excellence while developing individual career paths
- Define and execute the long-term data strategy and architecture: Include scalable ingestion, storage, modeling, and serving of both batch and real-time data to support Field Quality, Remanufacturing, and Powertrain operations
- Maintain and evolve robust documentation systems (deviations, inspection records, audits) ensuring full product lifecycle traceability and compliance
- Establish and meet clear quality metrics, KPIs, and objectives for the powertrain business. Report regularly to senior leadership on performance, costs recovered, and improvement opportunities
- Mentor and develop a high-performing team: Set a high technical bar through coding standards, documentation, best practices, and experimentation with new tools. Foster a culture of ownership, data-driven problem-solving, and continuous improvement. Network across factories to share best practices. Support 24x7 operations with urgency while enabling work-life balance
- Prioritize and execute in a fast-paced, highly dynamic production environment. Support urgent quality issues while remaining engaged, proactive, and positive

- Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Materials, Industrial Engineering, or relevant experience
- 7+ years of experience in Quality Engineering or related roles in high-volume manufacturing, including at least 3 years of people leadership or managing quality/data engineering teams in a 24x7 environment
- Proven track record of building and leading strong teams, delivering high-impact data systems at scale, leading RCA (5M, 5Why, 8D), corrective actions, supplier quality programs, chargeback/recovery efforts, APQP, Six Sigma, and statistical analysis
- Strong data analysis and engineering proficiency
- Experience establishing and managing documentation systems for nonconformances, deviations, and quality audits at scale; comfortable working with engineering drawings and technical specifications
- Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize in a highly dynamic production environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for reporting quality metrics, presenting data insights, aligning cross-functional teams, and influencing stakeholders
- Able to work well under pressure, manage competing demands and tight deadlines, resolve quality issues with urgency (flexibility required), remain engaged/proactive/positive in tough circumstances, and thrive while juggling multiple priorities
- Dependable leader and professional problem solver who seeks solutions, with strong stakeholder management, attention to detail, record-keeping, and organizational skills. Ability to translate business needs into scalable technical roadmaps
