What you'll be doing
As a member of CIBC’s AI, Data and Analytics team, the Senior Director – Decision Science will lead the Insurance Decision Science team and be responsible for developing and executing strategic initiatives across a range of CIBC Insurance products and projects. This is a senior technical leadership role that combines actuarial, statistical, data science and AI enablement capabilities. The role naturally involves a comprehensive understanding of Creditor (Bank Authorized) and Non-Authorized insurance products. You’ll exercise a high degree of independent judgement, setting the technical direction and standards for decision science activities that support pricing, profitability, growth, forecasting, portfolio performance and strategic decision making. You will develop and maintain trusted relationships across the Insurance business, larger Retail Banking organization and the technology and data science communities. In addition, you’ll translate sophisticated analysis of complex business information into clear recommendations for executives and business leaders, while providing independent challenge to assumptions, forecasts and proposed courses of action. You’ll drive innovation across areas of your responsibility and apply expert interpersonal, communication and problem-solving skills.
At CIBC we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role. You'll have the flexibility to manage your work activities within a hybrid work arrangement where you'll spend 1-3 days per week on-site, while other days will be remote.
How you'll succeed
- Strategy and Planning – Contribute to long-term strategy for the business in collaboration with insurance product and business leaders. Translate actuarial and advanced analytics into decisions on pricing, profitability, growth, forecasting and portfolio performance; identify opportunities, develop strategic proposals and independently challenge key assumptions and targets. Collaborate with internal partners to oversee, communicate and align business plans and ensure delivery on strategy and intended business outcomes.
- Technical Skills - Set and maintain standards for actuarial, statistical, data science and AI-enabled methods, models, tools and controls. Apply quantitative methods to identify, assess and validate the drivers of profitability, growth, market share, portfolio performance and risk exposure, and synthesize complex analysis to influence business decisions and outcomes. Establish forward-looking performance measurement, forecasting, product analysis and decision-support capabilities that enable timely action, rather than reporting results alone.
- People Management - Own the team’s capability and talent strategy, including workforce planning, succession, hiring, development, coaching and deployment of actuarial and analytics talent against business priorities. Build differentiated technical capabilities, establish clear role and proficiency standards, and create development pathways that strengthen the team over time. Manage capacity to ensure initiatives are appropriately staffed, identify capability gaps and remove obstacles to performance. Create a positive work environment and role model by championing CIBC’s mission, vision and values. Comply with policies, standards, guidelines and controls by applying them fairly and consistently so employees understand what to expect.
