About this role

Modern Technology Solutions, Inc. (MTSI) is seeking a highly qualified Modeling and Simulation Analysis Engineer to fulfill a critical Systems Engineering and Technical Assistance (SETA) position supporting the Space Development Agency (SDA).
The SDA is redefining traditional Department of Defense acquisition timelines by pioneering a rapid, spiral-development methodology to field hundreds of advanced satellites every two years. At the core of this mission is the Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture (PWSA), a resilient, low-Earth orbit constellation that fundamentally enhances national defense capabilities.
Based at SDA Headquarters in Chantilly, VA, you will be responsible for ensuring the model's portability across platforms, extending its capabilities, incorporating network metrics, representing the impact of availability and reliability, and performing analysis to support verification and system testing. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in space systems and modeling and simulation techniques, along with significant experience using STK (Systems Tool Kit).   While SDA Headquarters is located in Chantilly, VA., remote options will be considered.
Role and Responsibilities*
The Modeling and Simulation Analysis Engineer serves as a critical technical force within MTSI, enabling accurate, high‑fidelity representation of complex space architectures and ensuring analytically sound decision‑making across government and industry stakeholders. By advancing system-level models, integrating essential performance and network parameters, and driving analytical rigor that underpins verification and testing, this engineer directly strengthens the reliability and responsiveness of emerging national defense capabilities. This role offers a unique opportunity to shape the digital backbone of future proliferated LEO constellations, ensuring that cutting‑edge mission performance is validated, trusted, and ready to support the modern warfighter.   Your essential job functions will include but may not be limited to:   Model Development
- Understand the existing model's architecture and dependencies.
- Refactor and optimize the model to ensure it can run as a standalone application.
- Thoroughly test and validate the model’s performance and accuracy.
- Continuously expand the model’s capabilities to represent more complex space system behaviors and interactions.
- Implement new features and functionalities based on stakeholder requirements.
- Extend the model to support analysis and simulations for current and future system developments.
- Incorporate network metrics such as latency, bandwidth, and packet loss to represent the impact of network performance based on separate network analyses.
- Develop and integrate models representing the availability and reliability of space system components and subsystems.

Verification & System Test Support
- Perform detailed analysis using the model to support verification and system testing activities.
- Develop test cases and scenarios to validate accuracy and identify potential issues.
- Generate reports and presentations summarizing analysis results and recommendations.
- Work closely with verification and test teams to ensure the model effectively supports their activities.

STK Expertise
- Utilize STK extensively for modeling and simulating space system environments, including satellite orbits, communication links, and sensor coverage.
- Develop and maintain STK scenarios and models.
- Integrate STK with other modeling tools and platforms.

Documentation & Collaboration
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of the model's architecture, functionality, and usage.
- Collaborate effectively with engineers, analysts, and stakeholders to ensure the model meets project needs.
- Participate in technical reviews and presentations.
