Entry Level Mechanical Designer

Mechanical (HVAC) / Plumbing Designer

We're working with a growing engineering consulting firm in Grand Blanc, MI that is looking to add a Mechanical (HVAC) / Plumbing Designer to their team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with 1-5+ years of experience who wants to continue growing within building systems design while working on a variety of commercial and residential projects.

What You'll Be Doing

- Design HVAC and plumbing systems for commercial and residential facilities
- Layout and size ductwork and piping systems
- Perform HVAC load calculations
- Prepare construction drawings, specifications, calculations, and project documentation
- Coordinate with architects, engineers, and other design disciplines
- Participate in client meetings and project discussions
- Review and support mechanical submittals during construction
- Conduct occasional field visits for site verification
- Apply Michigan building codes and industry standards to designs

What They're Looking For

- 1-5+ years of HVAC, plumbing, mechanical, or MEP design experience
- Associate's degree, Engineering degree, Technical degree, or equivalent industry experience
- Experience using AutoCAD
- Familiarity with HVAC systems, ductwork, and piping layouts
- Exposure to construction documents and engineering drawings
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Interest in continuing to grow within the mechanical design field

Preferred Experience

- Commercial building design
- Plumbing system design
- HVAC load calculations
- Revit experience
- Trane Trace, HAP, or similar software
- Construction administration exposure
- Familiarity with Michigan Mechanical and Plumbing Codes
- Professional Engineer license (not required)

Work Environment This role is based in a small, close-knit company with approximately six full-time and two part-time team members, fostering a collaborative and supportive atmosphere. The position is fully on-site, with a standard five-day workweek in an office located in Grand Blanc, MI. The typical schedule is a 40-hour workweek, with the possibility of overtime when needed to meet project deadlines. The organization offers a multidisciplinary environment that integrates architecture and engineering, providing exposure to space planning, programming, design, and construction cost estimating. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $28.85 - $33.65/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
