About this role

Description

How would you like to lead a team whose work reaches hundreds of millions of customers and every engineer who builds for the Amazon Shopping app? Our organization builds the foundational services, frameworks, and tools behind the Amazon Shopping experience on iOS and Android. As a Software Development Manager, you will lead a team of engineers building the core capabilities that feature teams across Amazon use to ship quickly and safely.

The engineers on our team have a wide range of skills, and we want your passion for mobile to make the team even stronger. We raise the bar on the mobile shopping experience by building the frameworks, services, and code that thousands of developers across Amazon depend on. We think in terms of frameworks, not features, and we care about stability, scale, and performance more than trying new technology for its own sake.

About you: You are a technical leader who wants to grow your passion for mobile. You like building systems that other teams can take on once and get value from without extra work. You're comfortable getting into the details of architecture, operational metrics, and incidents to find root causes. You hold a high bar for quality while keeping your team unblocked and shipping. You enjoy managing a team and helping engineers grow, and you earn trust with partners by turning unclear, cross-team problems into clear plans with owners and dates.

About us: We're changing the way customers shop on mobile. Along the way we'll face hard, interesting problems that no one else has seen. We rely on our camaraderie, diversity, and strong culture to find solutions that challenge our first assumptions, to make hard decisions, and to deliver something better than what we started with.

If you want to build the foundation that the Amazon Shopping app runs on, we'd like to hear from you.

Key job responsibilities
You will lead, hire, and develop a team of software engineers. That means setting clear expectations, coaching engineers as they grow, and building a strong bench of technical talent. You will own the technical direction and roadmap for the foundational mobile services and frameworks used across the Amazon Shopping app. You'll also drive architecture and design decisions that balance scale, reliability, performance, and developer experience.

You will put operational excellence first. You'll define the metrics that matter, keep the on-call rotation healthy, and invest in automation that removes recurring operational work. You'll hold a high bar for engineering quality through design reviews, code reviews, and good testing practices.

You will work with product managers, technical program managers, and peer engineering teams to align priorities, resolve dependencies, and deliver cross-team projects on schedule. You'll turn unclear, cross-team problems into clear plans with owners, milestones, and success metrics. You'll also communicate status, risks, and tradeoffs clearly to both engineers and leadership.
