About this role
About us
Worley is a global company of energy, chemicals and resources experts headquartered in Australia. We partner with our customers to deliver projects and create value across the life of their assets. We specialize in consulting, engineering, procurement and construction across the project lifecycle, with services extending through to operations and decommissioning. Leveraging extensive experience and AI-enabled delivery, we support customers in navigating complexity as they meet today's needs and transition to more sustainable solutions.
Purpose of the role
You will be responsible for coordinating and overseeing materials control activities to support project delivery, from reviewing engineering documentation and determining material requirements through to receiving, storing, tracking, and distributing materials and equipment on site.
Drawing on your advanced knowledge of materials management systems, engineering specifications, and site operations, you will help maintain material availability, minimize waste, identify potential shortages, and resolve discrepancies before they affect project schedules. You will also provide technical guidance to colleagues, support continuous improvement, and collaborate across disciplines to ensure materials control activities align with project objectives, client requirements, and Worley’s operational standards.
Core Responsibilities
You will be responsible for:
- Engineering documentation and material take-offs: Review engineering drawings, blueprints, bills of materials, technical specifications, and related documentation to determine accurate material quantities, types, grades, sizes, and other requirements necessary to support project execution.
- Material planning and forecasting: Prepare, validate, and maintain material requirements, accounting for existing inventory, standard and conventional material sizes, project priorities, expected consumption, and anticipated construction and installation needs.
- Materials control and inventory management: Assist in the effective operation and maintenance of site materials control systems, ensuring accurate material records, stock balances, material status, traceability, and reporting throughout the project lifecycle.
- Receiving, storage, and distribution: Coordinate and oversee the receipt, inspection, identification, storage, preservation, handling, and distribution of materials and equipment to ensure availability for planned site activities and compliance with applicable project requirements.
- Material identification and procurement support: Maintain accurate material descriptions, applicable codes, specifications, brands where required, supplier details, and relevant contact information to support purchasing, expediting, order processing, and material traceability.
- Inventory reconciliation and discrepancy resolution: Monitor stock levels, reconcile physical inventory against system records, investigate shortages, surpluses, damaged materials, and documentation discrepancies, and coordinate corrective actions with relevant stakeholders.
- Project coordination and schedule alignment: Work collaboratively with engineering, procurement, construction, warehouse, logistics, and project controls teams to align material availability with project milestones, work packages, and construction priorities.
- Technical guidance and problem-solving: Apply specialized knowledge to resolve complex materials control issues, troubleshoot system and process challenges, and provide practical advice to colleagues and project stakeholders.
- Team leadership and collaboration: Lead functional project teams where required, coordinate assigned activities, provide job-related guidance to team members, and support the development of consistent materials management practices across the project.
- Reporting and stakeholder communication: Prepare and present material status reports, inventory summaries, forecasts, risk assessments, and recommendations. Communicate complex material-related issues clearly and persuasively to project teams, management, and clients.
- Process improvement and compliance: Identify opportunities to improve materials control systems, workflows, inventory accuracy, and reporting efficiency. Apply relevant procedures, project requirements, quality expectations, and health, safety, and environmental standards to materials management activities.
- Risk identification and mitigation: Identify potential material shortages, delivery constraints, storage limitations, and other supply-related risks. Recommend and coordinate practical solutions to reduce disruption, avoid unnecessary costs, and maintain project progress.
What you’ll bring to the role
You will bring a combination of technical expertise, materials management experience, analytical capability, and collaborative leadership to support successful project delivery.
Qualifications and experience
- A university degree or equivalent qualification in materials management, supply chain management, engineering, logistics, construction management, or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant professional experience.
- Typically, seven or more years of relevant experience in materials control, inventory management, materials planning, construction logistics, or a related project environment.
- Demonstrated experience interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, bills of materials, technical specifications, and other engineering documentation to establish material requirements accurately.
- Experience supporting materials management activities on construction, installation, industrial, energy, chemicals, resources, or other complex engineering projects.
- Experience maintaining or overseeing materials control systems, inventory databases, stock records, and material tracking processes.
- Experience coordinating material receipt, storage, preservation, handling, reconciliation, and distribution within a project or site-based environment.
- Experience working across multidisciplinary teams and coordinating activities with engineering, procurement, construction, warehouse, and logistics stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to lead project activities, coordinate team workloads, and provide technical guidance to colleagues. Experience with direct reports may be beneficial.
Technical knowledge and skills
- Engineering interpretation and material quantification: Strong ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications, identify required materials, calculate quantities, and account for relevant codes, grades, dimensions, and material standards.
- Materials planning and inventory control: Strong understanding of inventory principles, stock reconciliation, material forecasting, material availability, storage requirements, and the relationship between materials readiness and construction schedules.
- Materials management systems and digital tools: Proficiency in using materials control systems, inventory databases, spreadsheets, and project management tools to maintain accurate records, monitor material movements, generate reports, and resolve system-related issues. Experience troubleshooting system or process problems and assisting others with their resolution is important.
- Procurement and supply chain coordination: Understanding of purchasing workflows, supplier information, order processing, delivery tracking, and the importance of accurate material specifications and documentation in supporting procurement activities.
- Site logistics and material handling: Knowledge of site-based receiving, storage, preservation, distribution, and traceability practices, including the coordination of materials and equipment to support construction and installation activities.
- Data analysis and reporting: Ability to analyze inventory information, identify trends and discrepancies, assess material risks, and translate data into clear reports and actionable recommendations.
- Problem-solving and decision-making: Sound judgment and the ability to assess complex or competing material requirements, establish priorities, evaluate options, and implement practical solutions with appropriate consideration of project objectives and operational constraints.
- Quality, safety, and compliance: Understanding of relevant project procedures, material identification and traceability requirements, quality controls, and applicable health, safety, and environmental expectations for site materials management.
Leadership and personal capabilities
- Collaboration: You work effectively with people across disciplines, functions, and levels of the organization, building productive relationships with colleagues, clients, suppliers, and other stakeholders.
- Communication and influencing: You communicate clearly and confidently, including when explaining technical requirements, presenting recommendations, preparing reports, or addressing complex material-related issues with management and project teams.
