About this role

We are seeking a highly experienced, results-oriented Staff Software Engineer to join the Intuit Business Credit Card (IBCC) Platform Team. In this role, you will own the architecture and development of our business-critical systems — including Cardholder Repayments, Portfolio Billing, Customer Notifications, Business Flow Monitoring, and the IBCC AI Agent for Customers. You are a seasoned backend engineer who is passionate about clean code, Test-Driven Development (TDD), Domain-Driven Design (DDD), and leveraging advanced technologies like AI orchestration to solve challenging financial and business problems.

You will also lead the design, development, and delivery of two game-changing AI orchestration systems (PRD Creation and IBCC Dev Workflow) that transform our product development lifecycle. If you have a strong sense of ownership, attention to detail (especially with financial data), and thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment, this is the role for you.

Responsibilities

- Core Platform Ownership & Architecture: Lead the architecture, design, and development of IBCCs business-critical systems (Cardholder Repayments, Portfolio Billing, Customer Notifications, and Business Flow Monitoring). Approve every significant design and implementation change, holding final technical accountability for production correctness.
- AI-Driven Product Development Systems: Architect 'PRD Creation' a Spec-Driven Development framework, and build/maintain 'IBCC Dev Workflow,' our agentic workflow platform. Drive adoption of these frameworks across other Intuit teams and define integration standards.
- AI Agent Engineering: Design, build, and deliver the conversational IBCC AI Agent to serve customers against live financial data, integrating with ChatGPT, Claude Code, and our web application while ensuring strict safety and audit controls.
- Backend Software Development: Write high-quality, testable, maintainable, and efficient code in backend languages (primarily Python, Java, Kotlin) and associated frameworks (e.g., Django, FastAPI, Spring Boot).
- Requirement Analysis & Specification: Gather functional requirements, develop technical specifications, and manage end-to-end project and test planning.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate closely with Product, Risk, Compliance, and Leadership teams to align on feature development, overall service functional goals, and translate business decisions into robust platform logic.
- Production Support & Incident Management: Diagnose and resolve production-critical, customer-impacting issues. Participate in on-call rotations, lead post-incident analysis, and drive architectural remediation and system hardening.
- Financial Integrity & Reconciliation: Maintain daily reconciliation checks to verify settlement against processors and issuing bank records to the cent, ensuring a detailed audit trail is preserved.
- Technical Leadership: Set engineering standards for how the team builds, reviews, and ships changes. Serve as the final technical authority on architectural decisions, and use Agile Development, SCRUM, or Extreme Programming methodologies to drive execution.

Qualifications

- Experience: 10+ years of experience building robust, scalable, and high-performance backend systems and APIs, preferably within fintech or financial platforms.
- Technical Skills: Strong programming skills in languages such as Python, Java, or Kotlin, and event-driven cloud service architectures (specifically AWS).
- Software Engineering Fundamentals: Solid grasp of software engineering fundamentals, microservices style of service development, and practical application of transactional guarantees (ACID).
- Engineering Practices: Strong passion for clean code, unit testing, Test-Driven Development (TDD), and Domain-Driven Design (DDD).
- Domain Expertise:
- Proven experience designing and operating AI orchestration workflows that transform the software development lifecycle.
- Deep experience with payment authorization, processing, and ledger reconciliation (including failed, reversed, and returned transactions).
- Hands-on experience reconciling daily settlement against issuing bank files.
- Experience building highly reliable notification systems meeting regulatory disclosure requirements.
- Track record of setting platform observability/logging standards and building end-to-end monitoring.
- Direct experience designing customer-facing AI agents operating on live financial data with robust safety controls.

- Soft Skills & Ownership:
- A helpful, can-do attitude with a willingness to take absolute ownership of complex problems.
- Exceptional attention to detail, particularly when working with highly sensitive financial data.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to articulate complex technical ideas to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
