About this role
BIM / VDC Engineer – Dallas, TX
Summary
The BIM / VDC Engineer owns the digital model for the installation of automated production equipment into a partner manufacturing site. This role builds and manages the federated model that ties equipment layouts, utilities, structure, and MEP together; runs clash detection and spatial coordination before anything is issued for installation; uses reality capture to keep the model true to the site; and hands over an accurate as-built to operations. The ideal candidate has coordinated large, fast-moving industrial or high-tech facility projects across many disciplines and can make a model useful to engineers, installers, and project controls alike.
Key Responsibilities
• Set up and manage large, federated models spanning equipment, structural, architectural, and MEP disciplines across internal teams, vendors, and the partner site.
• Integrate equipment vendor models and layouts into the site model; establish modeling standards, LOD, naming, and data requirements for all contributors.
• Run clash detection and spatial coordination (Navisworks, Revizto, or equivalent) for equipment, utilities, and MEP; drive resolution to closure on schedule.
• Perform and process reality capture (laser scan, photogrammetry) of existing conditions; reconcile model to field.
• Produce coordinated installation drawings, equipment placement plans, utility drops, and sequencing visualizations for field teams.
• Integrate model data with project controls (quantities, WBS alignment) and commissioning/turnover workflows.
• Deliver the as-built model and data package to the partner's facilities team at handover.
• Develop custom parametric content and automation (Revit families, Dynamo, scripts) to speed modeling and data extraction.
• Evaluate and introduce BIM/VDC tooling appropriate to a fast equipment deployment program.
Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 3+ years hands-on BIM/VDC experience on industrial, manufacturing, or high-tech facility projects (semiconductor, battery, solar, automotive, data center).
• Proven expertise in Revit and Navisworks; proficiency with AutoCAD, IFC, and data interoperability.
• Experience with reality capture tools and point-cloud workflows (ReCap, Cyclone, or similar).
• Experience coordinating multi-discipline models with external design teams and vendors.
• Ability to work on-site in the Dallas area and travel to the partner site as required.
Preferred Skills
• Coding or visual programming (Dynamo, Python, C#) and database integrations.
• Experience aligning model quantities with WBS-based cost tracking.
• Experience with equipment-heavy layouts (robotic cells, conveyance, utilities) rather than building-only scope.
• Experience handing over BIM for facility operations.
• Experience in defense, aerospace, or other regulated programs.
