About Clarity Clinic

Clarity Clinic is an interdisciplinary group private practice, consisting of Psychiatrists, Psychiatric Advanced Practice Providers (PAs, NPs), Psychologists, and Therapists, offering services across several key areas, including Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), outpatient psychiatry, outpatient therapy, and immigration psychological evaluations. Our mission is to guide individuals toward mental wellness through exceptional holistic care.

We are seeking a results-driven Business Development Representative to grow patient referrals across our service lines. This is a field-based role focused primarily on prospecting and building referral relationships with physicians, advanced practice providers, hospital discharge teams, therapy practices, immigration attorneys, and other referral sources. The ideal candidate brings a track record of meeting or exceeding growth targets in healthcare sales and the curiosity to learn our clinical programs. Behavioral health experience is a plus, but it is not required. Clinical training is provided.

The primary duty of this role is obtaining referral commitments from physicians, advanced practice providers, hospitals, attorneys, and other referral sources, performed in person and away from Clarity Clinic offices. The employee independently plans and manages an assigned territory within growth targets and priorities set with the Vice President of Marketing & Growth. Office work, including CRM documentation, reporting, and follow-up, supports the employee's own field referral development.

role

Duties/Responsibilities

Field Referral Development (primary duty, performed in person at referral source locations)

Obtain commitments from referring providers, practices, hospitals, and other sources to refer appropriate patients to Clarity Clinic, and secure ongoing referral activity from each active source.

Independently plan and manage the assigned territory: select which accounts to pursue, set visit frequency, and decide how to approach each referral source, within territory priorities and performance targets set with the Vice President of Marketing & Growth.

Identify and pursue new business opportunities by prospecting and opening referral relationships with physicians and advanced practice providers in primary care, pediatrics, OB/GYN, and other specialties, as well as with therapists and therapy practices, to grow referrals across all service lines.

Conduct outreach to hospitals, including emergency departments, inpatient psychiatric units, discharge planners, and case managers, to build referral pathways for PHP/IOP step-down care.

Build step-down referral pathways with residential treatment programs and other higher levels of care for patients transitioning to PHP, IOP, or outpatient services.

Cultivate referral relationships with university counseling centers, employee assistance programs, and community mental health agencies where they support referral growth.

Lead outreach to immigration attorneys and legal aid organizations to grow referrals for immigration psychological evaluations, including in-person follow-up on attorney-facing outreach campaigns.

Build and maintain a prioritized target list of referral sources by service line, focusing effort on sources with the greatest growth potential.

Establish and maintain relationships with referral sources and their office staff through a consistent cadence of in-person visits within an assigned territory.

Develop and implement targeted outreach campaigns to attract new referrals for specific service lines.

Make referring easy: ensure referral sources understand how to send referrals, and follow up to resolve barriers or delays.

Complete clinical onboarding and maintain working knowledge of each service line, including patient candidacy, admission criteria, and insurance considerations.

Events and Marketing Collaboration (limited share of working time, in support of the employee's own referral development)

Identify and recommend events and outreach opportunities, and coordinate and execute approved activities.

Manage a monthly outreach budget with independent spending authority up to the approved limit, in line with Clarity Clinic expense and referral source policies.

Represent Clarity Clinic at select community events, conferences, health fairs, and professional meetings, prioritizing those with clear referral-generation value.

Attend occasional evening and weekend events as needed to support referral development and community engagement.

Collaborate with the Marketing team to identify collateral needs, provide field insights, and effectively use marketing materials and presentations to support referral development.

Plan and coordinate a limited number of events, such as provider education sessions and professional seminars, including scheduling, budgeting, and follow-up with attendees and potential referral sources.

Collaboration with Internal Teams

Partner with clinical directors and internal teams, including PHP/IOP leadership, TMS coordinators, psychiatrists, and therapists, to tailor outreach to each service line and ensure alignment between clinical offerings and outreach efforts.

Partner with the intake team to ensure referrals are received promptly, tracked by source, and followed up appropriately with the referral source.

Share insights on community needs and referral patterns with clinical, administrative, and marketing teams to improve service delivery and marketing strategy.

Reporting, Metrics, and Accountability (in support of the employee's own field work)

Meet or exceed defined activity and growth targets, including weekly in-person referral source visits, newly activated referring providers, and referral volume by service line.

Monitor referral conversion through scheduling and treatment initiation, identifying opportunities to improve referral quality and patient starts.

Log all outreach activity, referral source interactions, and pipeline updates in HubSpot daily, and compile data on lead generation, referral sources, and community partnerships.

Report weekly and monthly on outreach activity, new referring partners, referral volume, patient starts, and opportunities to improve performance.

Compliance

Conduct all business development activities in accordance with Clarity Clinic policies and applicable healthcare laws, including federal and state anti-kickback rules, physician self-referral rules, and HIPAA.

Follow Clarity Clinic policy on meals, gifts, and other items of value provided to referral sources, and document them as required.

Route patient-specific referral information to the intake team through approved channels, and do not record protected health information in HubSpot or other non-approved systems.

Qualifications and Minimum Requirements

3+ years of experience in healthcare sales, business development, or referral development, with a documented record of meeting or exceeding targets.

Proven success in prospecting and opening new accounts or referral sources, not only maintaining existing relationships.

Ability to quickly learn and clearly explain clinical service lines, including PHP, IOP, TMS, outpatient psychiatry, therapy, and immigration psychological evaluations.

Experience managing a territory, call plan, and pipeline using a CRM, with daily CRM use as a core part of the role.

Bachelor's degree in business administration, healthcare management, marketing, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Valid driver's license, current auto insurance, and reliable transportation for daily local travel.

Preferred Qualifications

Pharmaceutical, medical device, hospice, home health, or other referral-based healthcare sales experience (strongly preferred).

Pharmaceutical sales experience in psychiatry or neurology.

Experience in behavioral health or psychiatric services.

Experience using HubSpot, particularly Sales Hub.

Existing relationships with Chicago-area physicians, hospitals, or health systems.

Experience building referral relationships with attorneys or other legal professionals.

Results Orientation and Accountability. Owns performance against activity and growth targets, monitors referral conversion through scheduling and treatment initiation, and brings specific plans to close gaps without waiting to be directed.

Builds referral relationships on the value of Clarity Clinic's services, never on payments, gifts, or inducements, follows Clarity Clinic policy on meals and items of value provided to referral sources, and complies with federal and state anti-kickback and physician self-referral rules.

Privacy and Confidentiality. Protects any patient information encountered in the referral process in accordance with HIPAA and Clarity Clinic policy, uses only the minimum necessary, and routes clinical detail to intake rather than recording it in the field or in HubSpot.
