About this role
Job Title: Junior BOM Engineer Job Description
The Junior BOM Engineer supports a high-priority ERP transition and product-data accuracy initiative at a manufacturing facility. In this entry-level engineering and configuration-management role, you review Bills of Materials (BOMs), manufacturing routings, part information, and production cycle-time data to ensure records are accurate before the organization transitions from Sightline to Infor LN. This position is ideal for a detail-oriented, analytical, and organized individual who is interested in manufacturing operations, product data, and continuous improvement rather than new product design.
Responsibilities
- Review existing Bills of Materials (BOMs) for accuracy, completeness, duplication, and proper structure.
- Verify part numbers, descriptions, quantities, units of measure, revisions, and component relationships, and identify missing, obsolete, duplicated, or incorrectly assigned components.
- Review manufacturing routings and assist with correcting inaccurate production information.
- Collect, organize, and format manufacturing cycle-time data to support accurate routing and capacity planning.
- Compare BOM and routing information against technical documentation, work instructions, manufacturing records, and physical products to validate accuracy.
- Document discrepancies in product and manufacturing data and coordinate with internal teams to determine the correct information.
- Prepare and submit Product Action Forms to request approved changes to part and product records.
- Track BOM, routing, and product-data corrections through to resolution to ensure changes are fully implemented.
- Support the transition from Sightline to Infor LN by improving the accuracy and completeness of current product and manufacturing data.
- Work collaboratively with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Purchasing, Planning, and Supply Chain to resolve data discrepancies and standardize information.
- Help standardize part descriptions, naming conventions, revision levels, and BOM structures across products.
- Support ongoing BOM sustainment activities and daily engineering changes as needed.
- Enter production, warehouse, or inspection areas to review parts, assemblies, and manufacturing processes in person.
- Participate in continuous-improvement projects involving product data, manufacturing documentation, and ERP readiness.
- Contribute to a culture of data accuracy, process discipline, and continuous improvement within the engineering and operations teams.
Essential Skills
- Strong attention to detail and a clear commitment to data accuracy when working with BOMs, routings, and product records.
- Ability to review and validate Bills of Materials, part numbers, quantities, descriptions, and product structures.
- Basic understanding of manufacturing processes, routings, or production environments.
- Ability to identify discrepancies in product and manufacturing data and follow issues through to resolution.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including sorting, filtering, comparisons, and basic formulas.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills to manage large volumes of product and manufacturing data.
- Ability to work collaboratively with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Purchasing, Planning, and Supply Chain teams.
- Technical aptitude and willingness to learn ERP and product-data systems.
- Comfort working onsite in a manufacturing environment.
- Entry-level candidates are acceptable for this role.
- An engineering degree is preferred but not required.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Previous experience reviewing or maintaining Bills of Materials.
- Exposure to manufacturing routings or cycle-time studies.
- Experience with ERP, PLM, configuration-management, or document-control systems.
- Exposure to Infor Sightline or Infor LN systems.
- Experience preparing engineering-change documentation or Product Action Forms.
- Ability to read engineering drawings, work instructions, or technical specifications.
- Internship, co-op, academic project, or entry-level experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Familiarity with part-number creation and revision control practices.
- Exposure to CAD tools or environments.
- Education in engineering, engineering technology, manufacturing, industrial, operations, or another technical discipline.
- Willingness to travel in the future to support similar projects at other facilities.
Work Environment
This role is based onsite at a manufacturing facility and involves frequent interaction with production, warehouse, and inspection areas to review parts, assemblies, and manufacturing processes. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Purchasing, Planning, and Supply Chain, in a collaborative and data-driven environment. The position supports a major ERP transition from Sightline to Infor LN, and you will regularly use tools such as Microsoft Excel, ERP and PLM systems, and other configuration-management or document-control platforms. The work environment emphasizes accuracy, process discipline, and continuous improvement, with a strong focus on maintaining clean, consistent, and reliable product and manufacturing data.
