About this role
As a Senior Customer Quality Assurance (CQA) Engineer / Technical Quality Lead, you will serve as the technical quality authority for commercial shipments of next-generation Mixed Reality (MR) and Augmented Reality (AR) Smart Glasses. You will be directly responsible for establishing and driving outgoing DPPM control frameworks, leading complex cross-functional failure analysis (8D / CQA One-Pager format), optimizing NPI-to-MP quality readiness, and safeguarding end-user experience across complex hardware, firmware, software, and companion app ecosystems.
Responsibilities
Define, validate, and execute CQA test plans covering full system functionality, including Bluetooth/Wi-Fi connectivity, audio (MIC/SPK), camera capture/streaming, touch gestures, IMU/display performance, charging behavior, and companion app (MWA/iOS/Android) integration
Establish DPPM baselines during NPI phases (EVT/DVT/PVT) and enforce strict outgoing quality gates (AQL / MIL-STD-1916 attributes sampling) prior to commercial shipment
Perform risk impact assessments on CQA failures (Safety/Brand hazards, Batch issues, Single cases, or DPPM trends) and drive containment actions, line-down criteria, and quarantine management
Drive transition from manual operator testing to automated Extended User Testing (EUT) and automated test scripts (APK/Python/JMP) to improve test coverage, repeatability, and UPH while eliminating operator bias
Lead complex HW/SW/FW triage for system-level functional failures (e.g., optical waveguide defects, audio buzzing/noise, thermal throttling during live streaming, power/bootup failures, and sensor/B2B connectivity issues)
Author executive-level, structured CQA MIL One-Pagers for major functional and material issues, detailing exact problem statements, step-by-step diagnostic workflows, direct root cause mechanisms, and CAPA matrix
Design and execute Design of Experiments (DOEs) for thermal thresholds, battery consumption, signal integrity, and environmental/stress-induced degradation
Oversee CQA laboratory bring-up at contract manufacturer (CM) facilities, including clean/shielding room setup, VPN/network whitelist configuration, MDM test phone provisioning, and MES data-tracking integration
Analyze Early Field Failure Analysis (EFFA) pareto trends, customer returns, and internal beta-testing issues; translate field learnings into factory CQA detection line items
Partner closely with Product Quality Engineers (PQE), Software Quality Engineers (SWQA), Supplier Quality Engineers (SQE), Optical/PD Engineers, and CM teams to close out quality tasks and drive continuous improvement
Mandate and review standardized CQA One-Pager FA reports for all functional and material issues occurring at factory output or during NPI builds
Qualifications
B.S. or M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Optical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline
5+ years of experience in Quality Engineering, Customer Quality Assurance (CQA), or System Test Engineering within high-volume consumer electronics
Hands-on experience with smart glasses, AR/VR headsets, or wearable devices containing micro-displays, optical waveguides, IMUs, proximity/capacitive sensors, micro-cameras, and spatial audio speakers
Experience with system-level failure analysis methodologies, log analysis via adb, sensor reading verification, and diagnostic tools (Oscilloscopes, CT Scanning, EDX/FTIR, Acoustic Analyzers)
Experience with 8D problem solving, FMEA (DFMEA/PFMEA), SPC, MIL-STD-1916 sampling plans, AQL levels, and outgoing DPPM control frameworks
Technical communication and reporting skills in English (written and verbal), as English is the primary language used for cross-regional engineering documentation, reporting, and collaboration Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)
Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies
Experience testing wearable devices connected to companion iOS/Android mobile apps via BLE, Wi-Fi, and cloud accounts
Willingness to travel to and collaborate with contract manufacturer facilities in the APAC region
Experience with scripting languages (Python, JMP, Shell/ADB) or test software development (Android APK, Android HAL/Framework testing) to automate CQA test routines
Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews)
