About this role
Enabler for smaller, more powerful, and more energy-efficient microchips
Working for tomorrow today.
Around 80 percent of all microchips worldwide are produced using ZEISS technologies. As the centerpiece of every electronically controlled system, they have become an integral part of our everyday lives – whether in smartphones, smart homes or smart factories. ZEISS is a technology leader in the field of semiconductor manufacturing equipment. With high-precision lithography optics, photomask systems and process control solutions, ZEISS enables the production of ever smaller, increasingly powerful, and more energy-efficient microchips, and thus plays a pivotal role in the age of micro- and nanoelectronics.
At Zeiss SMT Switzerland in Zurich, our team of 20 dedicated engineers drives innovation in the semiconductor industry. We develop and enhance electro-mechanical machines crucial for microchip production. If you're passionate about cutting-edge technology and want to make a significant impact, join us!
Your Role
You will take technical ownership for advancing a high-precision electromagnetic actuator, from concept transfer through to integration into a lithography system. Together with an interdisciplinary team, you will make the system verifiable, manufacturable and scalable.
- Take technical ownership of an externally developed actuator concept, a risk-mitigation prototype and its transfer into the machine
- Provide technical leadership to an interdisciplinary team of three to eight colleagues in mechanical, electrical, analysis and test engineering
- Coordinate the technical optimisation of mechanics, electronics, magnetics, thermal behaviour and dynamics within the actuator system
- Make technical decisions with a focus on performance, manufacturability, scalability and cost of goods
- Identify and manage technical risks, conduct root cause analyses and implement appropriate mitigation measures
- Plan and lead technical reviews and verification activities at system, subsystem and component level
- Secure development knowledge from external partners for the internal organisation, including design rationale, verification methods and manufacturing knowledge
- Create and review technical documentation in scientific English, including specifications, FMEAs, test plans, test reports and interface descriptions
Your Profile
- You hold a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering or a comparable technical discipline
- You bring at least five years of experience in developing, integrating or technically leading complex mechatronic systems
- You have hands-on experience with electromagnetic actuators, direct drives, voice coil motors or high-precision motion systems
- You are proficient in FMEA, root cause analysis, verification, technical reviews and design-to-cost, and can confidently work with technical documentation and CAD drawings
- You communicate confidently in English at C1 level; German language skills are helpful
