About this role

Some careers have more impact than others.
If you’re looking for a career where you can make a real impression, join HSBC and discover how valued you’ll be.

We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Product Director, Document Intelligence

Role purpose:

The Product Director, Document Intelligence will own the strategy, roadmap and outcomes for HSBC’s enterprise Document Intelligence proposition. The role will establish a coherent, reusable set of capabilities that enables value streams to ingest, understand and act on information contained in documents at scale.

Reporting to the Group Head of Product, Enterprise AI Tooling & Digital Experience, the role will work closely with Group AI Platform and value-stream teams to shape a broader enterprise proposition spanning Document Studio and other document-processing capabilities. It will create one strategic destination for common capabilities, reducing duplication while preserving flexibility for genuinely specialised business requirements.

The Product Director will actively promote the Document Intelligence platforms, build and own the prioritisation of a pipeline of high-value, document-heavy use cases, and lead value streams from discovery through onboarding and scaled adoption using clear self-service, co-build and higher-touch delivery paths.

The role will ensure the proposition can deliver the accuracy, resilience, capacity and economics required at Group scale, with transparent measures of performance, consumption and value enablement. Value streams will remain accountable for realised business and financial outcomes.

Principal Accountabilities:

- Product strategy and roadmap — Define the vision, target experience and sequenced roadmap for enterprise Document Intelligence, balancing business priorities, reusable capabilities, platform maturity, dependencies and economics.

- Demand, prioritisation and engagement — Promote the platforms, build and own a transparent pipeline of high-value use cases, and establish a single intake process that assesses value, reuse potential, capability fit, complexity, controls and effort before routing demand through self-service, co-build or higher-touch delivery.

- Workflow transformation and adoption — Partner with value streams to define the problem, baseline and value hypothesis; validate feasibility early; redesign end-to-end workflows; and embed solutions into live journeys with the controls, integration, communications, training and change needed for sustained adoption.

- Reusable capabilities and ecosystem integration — Prioritise reusable document capabilities and ensure they are consumable through appropriate interfaces, APIs and integrations with Group AI Platform, model services, RAG and knowledge capabilities, Agent Hub, orchestration and downstream systems.

- Portfolio convergence and operating model — Set clear boundaries and decision rights between the enterprise platform and value streams; lead evidence-based reuse, co-build, extend or retire decisions; and enable approved services and reusable innovations to be consumed or contributed without creating parallel platforms.

- Quality, controls and continuous improvement — Set evaluation and acceptance criteria across accuracy, latency, resilience, cost and user outcomes; embed human review and feedback loops; and ensure privacy, security, records, model risk, explainability, accessibility, auditability and responsible AI requirements are built into the product lifecycle.

- Scale , performance and value — Ensure the proposition delivers the capacity, accuracy, resilience and economics required at Group scale; monitor service, quality, consumption and unit economics; and provide value streams with evidence to assess benefits while they retain accountability for realised outcomes.

- Cross-functional leadership — Align business, operations, product, engineering, architecture, AI and control teams; resolve trade-offs and ambiguity; and maintain momentum from discovery through scaled adoption.

Qualifications

Experience:

Essential

- Significant product leadership experience owning an enterprise AI, data, automation, document-processing or workflow platform from strategy through scaled adoption and measurable value.

- Demonstrated success engaging business and value-stream teams to identify, shape, prioritise and onboard high-value use cases through clear intake, self-service, co-build and higher-touch delivery paths.

- Strong understanding of intelligent document processing, including ingestion, OCR, classification, extraction, configuration, evaluation, human review and downstream workflow integration.

- Solid knowledge of, and product experience in, applying AI to automate end-to-end document processing, including large language models (LLMs), intelligent OCR, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) and agentic document-processing workflows.

- Demonstrated success redesigning document-heavy journeys and translating user and process insight into reusable capabilities, roadmaps and sustained adoption.

- Experience leading platform convergence across internal and third-party capabilities, including disciplined reuse, build, buy, extend and retire decisions.

- Technical and architectural credibility across APIs, orchestration, model and prompt lifecycle, evaluation, observability, release controls and integrations.

- Experience delivering in a large, regulated organisation, embedding privacy, security, records, auditability, responsible AI and human accountability.

- Commercial and analytical acumen across investment cases, consumption economics, baselining, benefits attribution and outcome measurement.

- Proven ability to align senior business, operations, product and technology stakeholders across geographies through influence.

Strongly preferred

- Experience launching or scaling Document Intelligence, intelligent document processing, OCR or AI-enabled operations across a large enterprise.

- Experience with document-heavy banking or regulated workflows, such as onboarding, KYC, underwriting, payments, trade, legal, audit or operations.

- Experience designing federated platform models that balance enterprise reuse with value-stream autonomy.

- Demonstrated ability to learn rapidly and stay current with emerging industry trends, technologies and market developments in intelligent document processing

- Experience establishing quality frameworks covering accuracy, precision and recall, human review, feedback loops and continuous learning.
