Purpose of Job
Provide technical and engineering support for the inspection, integrity management, maintenance, rehabilitation, and development of civil and structural assets across oil and gas production, processing, compression, pipeline, logistics, and support facilities including the accommodation facilities.
The role is accountable for ensuring that buildings, roads, foundations, drainage systems, and structural facilities remain safe, compliant, reliable, fit-for-purpose, and capable of supporting uninterrupted operations while minimizing business risk and lifecycle costs.
Key Accountabilities
Civil and Structural Integrity Management
- Develop and implement civil and structural integrity management programs.
- Ensure the safe operation and fitness-for-service of all civil infrastructure assets.
- Maintain an asset register and integrity database for civil and structural facilities.
- Monitor structural health and recommend remediation measures.
- Conduct risk-based assessment of aging infrastructure and structures.
Structural Inspection and Assessment
- Lead inspections and condition assessments of:
- Steel structures
- Pipe racks
- Equipment support structures
- Buildings and workshops
- Warehouses
- Compressor station structures
- Elevated platforms and access systems
- Foundations and concrete structures
- Identify:
- Corrosion damage
- Concrete deterioration
- Cracks and settlement
- Structural deformation
- Foundation instability
- Load-related deficiencies
- Prepare inspection reports and remediation plans.
Building Integrity and Maintenance
- Develop building inspection and maintenance programs.
- Manage integrity and guide maintenance repairs of:
- Office buildings
- Control rooms
- Workshops
- Warehouses
- Accommodation facilities in operations areas and Sasol village(s)
- Security infrastructure
- Ensure compliance with building standards and statutory requirements.
- Lead structural rehabilitation and refurbishment projects.
Road and Infrastructure Management
- Develop road inspection and maintenance strategies.
- Monitor and suggest improvements on:
- Access roads
- Internal plant roads
- Gravel roads
- Drainage systems
- Culverts
- Bridges and crossings
- Identify and prioritize repair requirements.
- Support logistics and operations teams to ensure year-round access to facilities.
- Manage contractors performing road maintenance and rehabilitation works.
Engineering Projects
- Provide civil engineering input into brownfield and greenfield projects.
- Review and approve engineering designs and construction drawings.
- Participate in project planning, cost estimation, execution, and commissioning.
- Ensure civil works comply with Sasol standards and engineering national and international specifications.
- Support Management of Change (MOC) processes.
Contractor and Vendor Management
- Manage specialist contractors performing:
- Structural inspections
- Non-destructive investigations
- Concrete repairs
- Road rehabilitation
- Building maintenance
- Review contractor performance.
- Ensure quality assurance and quality control requirements are met.
- Verify work completion and technical acceptance.
Formal Education
University Bachelors Degree in Engineering: Civil
