About The Job

The Operations Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and optimising secure, scalable, and interoperable technical solutions. The role combines infrastructure, application architecture, data platform engineering, cloud operations, automation, and security to support high-performance digital environments, including AI and machine learning workloads.

Responsibilities

- Architect and implement secure, interoperable solutions using standard frameworks and design patterns, ensuring the integration of applications and infrastructure for improved scalability and efficiency.

- Design and develop robust, vendor-agnostic data platforms supporting AI and machine learning workloads, with a strong focus on performance, flexibility, and multi-cloud optimisation.

- Build structured MLOps pipelines to automate and streamline the complete model lifecycle, from development and testing to deployment and serving.

- Design security architectures that protect infrastructure and applications while aligning with risk management strategies, data protection requirements, and security standards.

- Continuously assess, monitor, and optimise system performance and scalability using advanced metrics, benchmarking, and predictive analytics.

- Collaborate with AI developers, business analysts, IT operations teams, and other stakeholders to ensure technical architecture supports business objectives and operational needs.

- Establish and maintain CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code, and configuration management practices to support rapid, reliable application deployment.

- Ensure seamless system integration and cross-platform compatibility through API design, interoperability testing, and continuous improvement practices.

Specific expertise and technologies

- Strong expertise in containerisation and orchestration technologies, including Docker and Kubernetes, for scalable application deployment.

- Experience in network architecture design, particularly in distributed systems and hybrid cloud environments.

- Comprehensive experience with relational and non-relational databases, including Oracle, PostgreSQL, OpenSearch, and MongoDB, with a focus on high-volume transaction processing.

- Proficiency with monitoring and observability tools such as Prometheus and Grafana for infrastructure monitoring, performance analysis, and real-time alerting.

- Experience with advanced load balancing solutions and caching technologies such as Redis to support high-traffic applications.

- Knowledge of security and vulnerability scanning tools, including OWASP and SonarQube, as well as secure coding, encryption, and identity management practices.

- Strong knowledge of version control systems and CI/CD platforms, including Git, Jenkins, and GitLab CI.

- Experience with distributed streaming and message queue technologies such as Kafka and RabbitMQ.

- Proficiency with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform and AWS CloudFormation.

- Familiarity with configuration management tools such as Ansible for system administration and automation.

- Familiarity with AI-powered code assistants such as Amazon Kiro and GitHub Copilot would be considered an asset.

- Good knowledge of the European Commission grant management ecosystem, including eGrants, would be considered an asset.

Education

- EQF Level 6 or higher in a relevant field such as Computer Science, Information Technology, Systems Engineering, or a related discipline.

Skills and competencies

- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.

- Excellent organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage priorities in a dynamic technical environment.

- Strong team spirit and proven ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.

- Ability to integrate quickly into an international and multicultural working environment.

- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

- High attention to detail, particularly in infrastructure design, documentation, and operational follow-up.

- Ability to write clean, efficient, maintainable code and contribute to high-quality engineering practices.
