About this role

The product you will work on

The HOLOPLOT Matrix Array is a new type of sound system built around precise, software-defined control of audio in three dimensions - grounded in physics and delivered through a combination of custom hardware and software. HOLOPLOT Matrix Arrays are deployed in flagship venues worldwide, including Sphere in Las Vegas - home to the largest audio installation on Earth.

Audio processing in HOLOPLOT systems is distributed: every loudspeaker runs embedded Linux, and hundreds of modules must be configured, coordinated, monitored, and updated as a unified system. This is enabled by a combination of open-source software and in-house developed services running on an on-premises Kubernetes cluster.

Who we are and what you’ll do

The ideal candidate is

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer dedicated to driving the performance and reliability of both our embedded hardware and supporting on-prem services, as well as actively designing and developing core platform features. You are eager to understand fleet behavior in practice across embedded devices, passionate about hands-on technical exploration, and skilled at converting insights into codebase improvements and CI testing pipelines.

At HOLOPLOT, ensuring quality is a multifaceted task. It demands mastery of our product line, testing the system beyond its limits, and using Go and Python to automate what was learned. In this position, you will operate across the full technology stack, balancing new feature development, testing, bug resolution, and process automation.

Main objectives of the role

Your role and responsibilities

You will join the team owning our embedded platform, working alongside embedded, backend, and platform engineers in cross-functional product teams. Your responsibilities will include:

- Mastering the system end-to-end, from DSP logic on a loudspeaker to higher-level cluster services.
- Leading exploratory testing sessions, documenting edge cases as manual test suites, and resolving issues directly.
- Developing and maintaining features of the embedded platform and the surrounding services.
- Converting manual tests into automated suites running continuously against physical or simulated hardware.
- Writing hardware-in-the-loop integration tests covering boot, provisioning, updates, rollbacks, audio pipelines, and recovery in CI.
- Co-owning and maintaining the release cycle for the OS and firmware stack.
- Taking part in a compensated on-call rotation supporting systems in production at venues worldwide.

What you need to succeed in this role

Several years of software engineering experience shipping production systems.

- A strong drive to stress-test products, gain deep domain expertise, and fix root causes.
- Strong proficiency in Go and Python, with a track record of adapting to other languages as needed.
- Deep Linux knowledge: boot path, systemd, filesystems, networking, kernel interfaces.
- Knowledge of Embedded Linux: Yocto or Buildroot, A/B updates, ARM platforms
- Experience automating tests, preferably against physical hardware.
- Experience coordinating a release process.
- Experience with open-source (FOSS) workflows: upstreaming patches, engaging with maintainers, and tracking dependencies.
- Experience in using AI for engineering.
- Willingness to take part in compensated on-call work.
- Strong communication skills in English.

Nice to haves

Experience in developing Linux drivers

- Kubernetes knowledge: deploying onto clusters and debugging through them.
- Experience with NATS, Prometheus/Thanos, or PostgreSQL in production.
- Experience with test instrumentation hardware: switched PDUs, serial consoles, relay boards, audio capture.
- Experience with digital audio or Audio-over-IP: Dante, RAVENNA/AES67, PTP, ST 2022-7.
- Experience with networking: multicast at scale, WireGuard, BGP, IPv6.

We offer you

At HOLOPLOT we work in a flexible hybrid setup with trust-based working hours, giving you the freedom to organise your day in a way that supports focus, deep work and balance. Pay is competitive and fair, and we offer perks and benefits such as subsidised public transport, lunch allowances, Urban Sports and a company pension scheme.

You’ll join an international, open-minded team across software, hardware, product and research, in an environment with plenty of autonomy and ownership. You’ll work on cutting-edge audio technology, turn complex requirements into working solutions and contribute to global projects, with support for your growth through individual development plans, mentoring and coaching
