About this role
At Meta, we're not just building products — we're shaping the future of digital privacy. We're committed to embedding privacy into the core of our products, and to redefining how privacy is handled in the digital world.
This role in Privacy owns the interface between Meta's engineering organizations and the Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) functions that govern them. You will give engineering, product, legal and policy partners the domain judgment they need to make confident decisions under regulatory constraint. You will set technical direction across the organization for how privacy obligations are met, and build the centralized standards, frameworks and tooling that let the business execute at pace while meeting its obligations.
Responsibilities
Define and drive the multi-year technical vision and architecture for large-scale product systems, ensuring designs are reliable, extensible, and capable of evolving with business needs
Identify and solve the most complex, cross-cutting engineering problems across multiple systems and abstraction layers, including issues that span organizational boundaries
Establish extensible technical foundations, coding standards, and architectural patterns that improve consistency and delivery velocity across engineering organizations
Lead cross-functional execution of org-wide technical initiatives, aligning stakeholders, managing dependencies, and driving outcomes against defined milestones and metrics
Develop and operationalize engineering excellence programs including reliability standards, performance guardrails, and quality frameworks adopted across teams
Deeply understand privacy, security, and integrity vulnerabilities relevant to product systems and build robust technical safeguards in partnership with compliance and policy teams
Mentor engineers across the organization by providing candid feedback, customized coaching, and technical guidance on the most challenging system and feature design problems
Communicate complex technical strategies and trade-offs clearly to audiences ranging from individual contributors to executive leadership, producing artifacts used as long-term references
Identify systemic issues and recurring failure patterns across the organization, developing invariants and architectural improvements that prevent entire classes of problems
Recruit and develop engineers with skills critical to the team's success, role-modeling technical and cultural standards that strengthen the broader engineering community
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience
12+ years of experience designing, building, and scaling large-scale software systems serving high-traffic, production environments
12+ years of programming experience with demonstrated ability to solve complex, cross-system technical problems through direct implementation
Experience leading multi-year technical roadmaps and cross-organizational engineering initiatives from vision through execution
Experience influencing technical direction across multiple teams and functions through written proposals, architectural reviews, and stakeholder alignment
Experience mentoring engineers across an organization and driving engineering culture improvements through programs, standards, and direct coaching Technical contributions to the privacy or security community (e.g., public research, blogging, presentations, industry standards work)
Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies
Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews)
Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)
Experience operating in a governance, risk and compliance or second-line-of-defense function (controls design, assurance testing, or generating evidence for external audit or regulatory examination), including working directly with regulators, external auditors, or counsel on technical matters
Experience interpreting regulatory, legal or control requirements and translating them into technical requirements, standards or automated enforcement
Experience implementing or assessing the implementation of GDPR, CCPA, or equivalent privacy regulation at scale
Privacy understanding, data strategy, or AI domain expertise
Experience shipping products to many millions of customers
Experience operating as the company-wide expert on a privacy domain, whether a product area or a problem area such as data deletion or retention, where engineers, Legal, Policy and senior leadership seek your guidance
Experience designing frameworks, standards or assessment methodologies that were adopted by organizations beyond the one that built them
Technical experience across other Privacy or Security disciplines, e.g., Application Security/Privacy, incident response, or adversarial testing
