About this role
About the Company
Our client is a developer and owner of AI data center infrastructure, converting sites across a large national real estate portfolio into power-dense edge compute facilities.
The company is delivering this national rollout of AI inference data centers in partnership with a leading hyperscale cloud platform, with active sites across 12+ states.
The organization offers experienced power and utility professionals the opportunity to own a critical function during a period of significant growth.
About the Position
Our client is seeking a Power Portfolio Manager to own the power strategy behind its national AI data center rollout.
This is a senior, hands-on individual-contributor role reporting to executive leadership. The Power Portfolio Manager will tell leadership, for every site, exactly how much power is available, how much more can be secured, when it will be energized and what could delay it.
The ideal candidate is an electrical engineer who has personally taken large-load utility requests from application to energization and can work effectively with utilities without direct authority over them.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build and maintain the master power portfolio, tracking available, requested and committed capacity (MW/MVA) for every site across 12+ states.
- Track utility timelines, upgrade costs and risks for each site.
- Serve as day-to-day lead with utility account managers, planners and engineers on service requests, load studies, agreements, deposits and infrastructure upgrades.
- Manage outside engineering firms and consolidate studies, one-lines and utility letters into one reliable source of truth.
- Identify long-lead equipment and schedule risks early, including substations, feeders, transformers, switchgear and service entrances.
- Deliver concise weekly updates to leadership with clear recommendations and escalations.
- Travel as needed to utilities, project sites and engineering partners.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
- 6+ years of power delivery experience working directly with electric utilities, at a utility or on the developer, EPC, data center or industrial side.
- Ability to read one-line diagrams and utility load or system impact studies.
- Strong working knowledge of MW vs. MVA, power factor, feeders, substations, transformers and switchgear.
- Proven record of moving utility service or capacity requests to energization without direct authority over the utility.
- Hands-on utility or electrical experience; backgrounds limited to energy sales, origination, trading, general program management or residential/small commercial service will not be considered.
Preferred Certifications & Qualifications:
- Experience inside an electric utility in large-load service, new business, distribution planning or interconnections.
- Data center, mission-critical or heavy industrial load experience.
- Experience managing a multi-state portfolio across several utilities.
- Knowledge of tariffs, electric service agreements, load studies and system impact studies.
Benefits
- $150,000–$220,000 base salary, depending on experience and qualifications.
- Annual bonus.
- Comprehensive benefits package.
- Saratoga Springs, NY headquarters preferred; exceptional candidates near a major hub airport will be considered.
- Opportunity to own the power strategy for a national AI data center rollout.
