About this role

Job Title: Piping Engineer Job Description The Piping Engineer produces and reviews high-quality 3D piping layouts and routing for complex industrial facilities, with a strong focus on LNG, power, and cryogenic projects in an EPC environment. This role integrates piping design with mechanical, civil, and structural disciplines, ensures compliance with applicable piping codes and standards, and supports the full lifecycle of piping deliverables from concept through fabrication. The engineer also mentors junior team members and helps maintain project standards, constructability, and overall design quality. Responsibilities

- Produce and check detailed 3D piping layouts and routing using major 3D piping modeling tools such as PDMS, SmartPlant 3D, AutoPLANT, CADWorx, and Plant 3D.
- Generate piping isometrics, support details, and tie-in reviews while ensuring correct line classes, insulation requirements, and stress considerations are properly applied.
- Coordinate equipment nozzle locations, access requirements, maintenance clearances, and lifting and installation strategies with mechanical, civil, and structural teams.
- Review vendor piping and package drawings and accurately integrate these into the overall plant model, including management of package tie-ins.
- Participate actively in clash detection sessions, design reviews, site walks, and constructability assessments to identify and resolve design issues early.
- Provide input to piping stress groupings, support types, hanger locations, and pipe rack layouts to ensure robust and constructible designs.
- Support spool generation, quality control and checking of piping isometrics, and issuance of complete and accurate fabrication packages.
- Mentor and guide junior drafters and layout engineers, promoting adherence to project standards and ensuring consistent deliverable quality.
- Apply practical construction awareness to develop piping layouts that are safe, efficient, and readily constructible in the field.
- Integrate skid-mounted packages and modular construction concepts into the piping layout to optimize installation and fabrication strategies.
- Incorporate local fabrication and installation practices, particularly those common to the Houston area, into piping design solutions.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of piping design standards, procedures, and best practices for LNG and related facilities.

Essential Skills

- Minimum of 10 years of piping layout experience on LNG, power, or cryogenic projects within an EPC environment.
- Strong piping design experience, including piping systems, piping layout, and P&ID interpretation.
- Proficiency with major 3D piping modeling tools such as PDMS, SmartPlant 3D, AutoPLANT, CADWorx, and Plant 3D.
- Solid understanding of piping insulation practices for cryogenic lines and their impact on layout and support design.
- Strong knowledge of B31.3 and B31.1 piping codes and their application to industrial piping systems.
- Practical construction awareness with the ability to develop piping layouts that are safe, efficient, and constructible.
- Effective communication skills with strong coordination capabilities across multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience integrating skid-mounted packages and modular construction techniques into plant layouts.
- Experience producing LNG plant layouts and associated piping arrangements.
- Experience in mechanical engineering with a focus on piping and piping systems.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license is highly preferred.
- Experience in a lead engineer capacity on piping or mechanical engineering scopes is beneficial.
- Familiarity with Houston-area fabrication and installation practices is an advantage.
- Experience mentoring and developing junior drafters and layout engineers.
- Ability to interpret and work from P&IDs, vendor drawings, and multidisciplinary design documents.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining project standards and quality of deliverables.
