About this role
With Vopak and the BESS developer Green Energy Storage joining forces, we’re accelerating the energy transition by deploying utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) across the Netherlands and internationally. In this position, you will be employed directly by Green Energy Storage B.V. (GES) and based at our BESS headquarters in Breda.
To strengthen our Project Management team we are looking for an experienced Project Manager. Ready to lead utility-scale BESS projects from ready-to-build through construction, commissioning, and handover, and to take ownership of safety, schedule, budget, and quality along the way? Join us to deliver lasting impact.
Why you'll love working with us
- Being part of an ambitious and entrepreneurial team.
- A salary between EUR 80.000-115.000 per year, depending on your skills and experience.
- Annual bonus opportunity.
- Travel allowance / mobility arrangement.
- A hybrid working schedule with our main BESS office located directly next to Breda Central Station.
- Attractive pension scheme.
- We will continuously invest in your personal growth, and future career path.
What will you do?
As Project Manager you will lead large and complex work packages of our BESS projects from ready-to-build through execution, commissioning, handover, and close-out, including two of the largest sites currently under construction in the Netherlands. Where it improves project readiness, you step in earlier, during development, to make sure scope, contracting strategy, budget, schedule, and risk profile are mature before execution starts.
You take ownership of safety, planning, budget, and quality. You’re part of a multidisciplinary project team and align it with Tier-1 BESS integrators, Balance of Plant (BoP) contractors, high-voltage specialists, grid operators, authorities, and investors, so that complex projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget. You drive decisions, resolve issues before they become delays, and escalate when needed.
What does your day look like?
Operating closely with engineering, contracts & procurement, and on-site construction teams, your key responsibilities include:
- Establish and execute the Project Management Plan. Keep schedule, milestones, and critical path under control and actively monitor progress against the agreed baseline.
- Manage the project budget, forecasts, and commitments, and run structured change management, from impact assessment through approval to communication.
- Coordinate the technical, commercial, and contractual interfaces between contractors, suppliers, grid operator, and internal teams. Identify risks and bottlenecks early and put mitigation measures in place.
- Promote a strong safety culture on site and ensure compliance with HSE and quality requirements, permits, and contractual obligations.
- Keep management, investors, and other stakeholders informed through clear reporting on progress, risks, decisions, and results.
- Coordinate testing, commissioning, and handover to operations. Close out the project with complete as-built documentation and warranties, and translate lessons learned into better project management standards for the next projects.
Does this sound like you?
You are a structured organizer and a natural leader who gets energy from turning energy and infrastructure projects into reality. You keep the overview without losing sight of the detail, connect different interests, and stay calm and pragmatic when things get busy on site.
- 5+ years of hands-on project management experience in energy, infrastructure, construction, or industrial CapEx projects, with end-to-end responsibility for schedule, budget, and quality.
- Proven track record in multidisciplinary project delivery, including planning, cost control, risk management, and stakeholder management. Experience with EPC projects, battery storage, grid infrastructure, or renewable energy is a strong advantage.
- Commercial and contractual awareness, with experience in contract management and in supporting tenders and contractor selection.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related field.
- Fluent in English. Command of other languages are naturally a plus.
- Willingness to travel between sites, suppliers and contractors.
