About this role
Principal to Associate Director Flood Risk Engineer
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Principal to Associate Director Flood Risk Engineer to lead and develop our flood risk capability, with a particular focus on building and expanding our in-house flood modelling expertise.
We are in the process of developing our modelling capability and are looking for someone who can take ownership of this area, establish best practice, develop technical expertise within the team and help shape the future direction of the service. This is an opportunity to play a key role in growing a capability, rather than simply managing an established modelling function.
The role will combine hands-on technical delivery of Flood Risk Assessments, hydraulic modelling, project leadership and team development, alongside opportunities to contribute to client relationships and business growth.
Flexible working is supported, and remote working is possible. However, some attendance at our Hertfordshire or London office would be preferred to support team development.
EAS is a company of 26 staff and you would be responsible for around 5-6 flood risk staff and supported by a separate similar number of infrastructure engineer. We are a friendly approachable company and looking for similar minded practical people who will fit well within the existing team.
You will ideally have:
- A suitable qualification in Civil Engineering, Water Engineering, Hydrology, Environmental Engineering or a related discipline.
- Significant experience in flood risk consultancy in the development sector to demonstrable readiness to step into a more senior leadership role.
- Strong practical experience in hydraulic modelling, including model development, verification, interpretation and reporting.
- Experience with industry-standard software such as TUFLOW, Flood Modeller, HEC-RAS or equivalent.
- A sound understanding of flood risk assessments, planning policy, climate change impacts and flood mitigation.
- Experience managing projects, budgets, programmes and client relationships.
- Previous experience supervising, mentoring or managing engineers and technical staff.
- The ability and enthusiasm to develop modelling capability, establish technical processes and build expertise within a team.
- A proactive, commercially aware approach, with an interest in developing new services and supporting business growth.
- Excellent communication, report-writing and technical review skills.
Chartered status with ICE, CIWEM or another relevant professional institution would be advantageous.
We recognise that candidates may bring different strengths. We are therefore open to someone who is already an established Associate Director, as well as a Senior/Principal Engineer with strong technical skills, leadership potential, and the ambition to step up into a broader role.
