The ideal candidate is comfortable working directly with detailed tax calculations and workpapers while providing practical guidance to clients and colleagues.

Key Responsibilities

- Manage global mobility tax engagements from initial planning and information gathering through preparation, review, and delivery.

- Personally prepare complex returns and calculations as needed, review staff work in detail and resolve issues necessary to complete filings accurately and on time.

- Prepare and review U.S. federal and state income tax returns for expatriates, foreign nationals, dual-status taxpayers, and individuals with cross-border employment or residency considerations.

- Review supporting workpapers and calculations involving foreign tax credits, foreign earned income exclusions, income sourcing, treaty positions, residency determinations, and tax equalization.

- Oversee applicable international information reporting and disclosures, including foreign asset and account reporting.

- Provide day-to-day client service, including responding to questions, explaining tax obligations, obtaining outstanding information, and communicating deadlines.

- Advise employers and individuals on the tax implications of international assignments, transfers, business travel, and repatriation.

- Work with client HR, payroll, and finance teams on assignment-related compensation, withholding, tax equalization, and tax protection matters.

- Address cross-border tax issues involving bonuses, equity awards, and deferred compensation.

- Coordinate with foreign tax advisors to support consistent reporting across jurisdictions.

- Assist tax partners throughout the firm with global mobility and cross-border individual tax matters affecting their individual and business clients.

- Research technical issues and translate findings into clear, practical recommendations.

- Manage engagement budgets, billing, staffing, workflow, and deadlines.

- Supervise and develop staff through hands-on training, detailed review comments, and timely feedback.

- Assist with tax notices and inquiries and identify opportunities to expand services to existing and prospective clients.

Qualifications

- Must be willing and able to work in the office a minimum of three days per week.

- Bachelors or advanced degree in Accounting required.

- MST, J.D., LL.M., or other relevant certifications preferred.

- Active CPA or Enrolled Agent (EA) credential required.

- 10+ years of progressive tax experience in public accounting, including significant experience in global mobility taxation.

- Recent, substantial hands-on experience preparing and reviewing expatriate and foreign national tax returns, supporting workpapers, international disclosures, and tax equalization calculations.

- Strong knowledge of U.S. individual taxation, residency rules, income sourcing, foreign tax credits, tax treaties, and international reporting requirements.

- Experience managing both individual client engagements and employer-sponsored global mobility programs.

- Demonstrated ability to independently resolve complex compliance issues and manage ongoing client service.

- Ability to work effectively in a mid-sized firm, balancing direct technical work with engagement leadership, staff development, and practice growth.

- Strong communication, research, analytical, and organizational skills.
