The Opportunity
The Senior Director – Fraud & Payments Risk is a newly created, independent second-line leadership role accountable for building and maturing Ally’s enterprise oversight framework across fraud and payments risk. This leader will advance the governance structure, policy framework, risk appetite, reporting, and effective challenge model across all business lines and first-line fraud and payments execution functions, providing direct, real-time visibility into fraud and payments outcomes.
Reporting to the Executive Director of Operational Risk, with direct interaction with the Chief Risk Officer and in collaboration with Legal and Compliance partners, this leader will develop and enhance appropriate governance forums, manage the fraud and payments risk appetite framework, and prepare reporting for the ERMC and Board Risk Committee. The role will advise, enable, and challenge modernization of Ally’s fraud and payments ecosystem as the company deepens and expands primary banking relationships across Consumer Banking, particularly deposits and investing. It will help balance innovation, customer experience, and profitable growth as consumer expectations, fraud typologies, payment capabilities, and the broader threat landscape continue to evolve. The role also serves as a central connector across fraud, payments, cyber, AML, and identity risk domains, supporting Ally’s transition toward a converged, threat-aligned enterprise protection model.

- Provide effective challenge to first-line fraud and payments strategies, products, detection rules, thresholds, controls, customer-experience decisions, and the enterprise fraud technology roadmap, without assuming ownership of first-line execution.
- Review and challenge business-line and enterprise RCSA results, control design, new and modified products or payment capabilities, and issue remediation plans related to fraud and payments risk, partnering with the RCSA Program and Internal Audit.
- Risk Reporting & Escalation Deliver regular fraud and payments risk appetite, KRI, and KPI reporting to the CRO, ERMC, and applicable Risk Committees, including trend analysis on fraud losses, payment risks, attack patterns, customer impacts, and control effectiveness.

- Support annual and periodic enterprise fraud and payments risk program health reporting to the Audit Committee and Board, in partnership with Compliance and first-line fraud and payments functions.
- Enterprise Threat Convergence, Modernization & Cross-Functional Leadership Serve as the Risk representative on cross-domain “attack journey” and modernization teams spanning fraud, payments, cyber, identity, and AML.
- Partner with Compliance, Cyber, Technology, Consumer Banking, and business-line leadership to close visibility gaps between fraud, payments, cyber, and financial-crime risk data and reporting.
- Provide risk input into enterprise payments modernization, identity and authentication (CIAM) strategy, AI-enabled fraud detection initiatives, and other emerging-risk technology investments, helping leaders balance innovation, customer experience, risk management, and profitable growth.
