Job Description
Position Overview
Invenergy is seeking a Director, Integrated Energy Projects to join its Digital Infrastructure business line. This individual will serve as the program leader responsible for integrating the energy and infrastructure solutions required to support large-scale data center developments. The Director will work across Invenergy’s renewable generation, thermal generation, geothermal, battery energy storage, transmission and grid integration, and data center development teams to bring multiple independently managed workstreams together into one coordinated and executable energy solution.
This is not a discipline-specific engineering role, a sales or origination role, or a traditional PMO position. Individual technology and functional teams will retain responsibility for developing and executing their respective assets and workstreams. The Director will be accountable for integration across those efforts—driving the overall energy architecture, critical interfaces, sequencing, system-level decisions, and alignment with the data center’s power requirements.
The role will support complex data center developments ranging from individual facilities to multi-building campuses requiring hundreds of megawatts or more of power. Energy solutions may include combinations of grid supply, renewable generation, dispatchable generation, geothermal, battery storage, transmission infrastructure, and other emerging technologies.
The successful candidate will bring strong energy-development and program leadership experience, with the technical judgment to understand how multiple power technologies and infrastructure systems interact as one system. This individual must be able to identify required analyses, challenge assumptions, reconcile competing workstreams, frame major tradeoffs, and drive teams toward an integrated solution that is reliable, executable, and aligned with project schedule and capital requirements.
This is an opportunity to help establish Invenergy’s integrated energy delivery model for Digital Infrastructure—connecting the company’s generation, storage, grid, and infrastructure capabilities into scalable solutions for large-load data center projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the program leader for integrated energy solutions supporting assigned data center developments, coordinating multiple generation, storage, grid, and infrastructure workstreams into a unified strategy and execution plan.
- Lead development of the integrated energy architecture, defining the role, phasing, and interaction of grid supply, renewable generation, dispatchable generation, geothermal, battery storage, transmission infrastructure, and other technologies based on load requirements, reliability objectives, speed-to-power, project economics, and execution constraints.
- Translate data center load requirements—including capacity, phasing, load ramp, firming requirements, reliability, redundancy, grid import/export limits, operating constraints, backup strategy, and future expansion—into coordinated requirements for the underlying energy and infrastructure workstreams.
- Establish and maintain the integrated program plan, including major milestones, dependencies, interfaces, decision points, critical-path items, and responsibilities across individual technology and infrastructure teams.
- Lead integration of the technical analyses required to validate the overall energy solution, including load and generation profiles, dispatchability, intermittency, storage sizing, grid interactions, operating constraints, reliability and redundancy, and islanding or backup scenarios where applicable.
- Evaluate system-level alternatives and tradeoffs across reliability, speed-to-power, capital cost, operating cost, execution risk, permitting, interconnection, scalability, and operational complexity, bringing together the appropriate subject-matter experts and decision-makers.
- Identify conflicts, gaps, and dependencies among individual workstreams and drive resolution before they affect development schedules, interconnection, permitting, construction sequencing, capital planning, or data center energization milestones.
- Coordinate closely with data center development teams to ensure the energy strategy remains aligned with site development, facility phasing, target energization dates, load growth, reliability requirements, and operational needs.
- Ensure project economics and capital planning reflect the complete integrated energy solution, coordinating assumptions across technology teams so that generation, storage, grid, transmission, and infrastructure investments are evaluated consistently at the program level.
- Drive integrated risk management across energy and data center workstreams, ensuring material technical, regulatory, interconnection, permitting, supply-chain, schedule, and execution risks are identified early and have clear mitigation plans.
- Establish program governance and decision-making processes that create clear accountability across independently managed workstreams and enable timely resolution of cross-functional issues.
- Provide concise, decision-oriented recommendations to senior leadership, translating complex cross-technology issues into the issue, business impact, alternatives, recommended path, and decision required.
- Capture lessons learned and develop repeatable integrated energy planning and delivery frameworks that can be applied across Invenergy’s growing Digital Infrastructure portfolio.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Energy, or a related technical discipline.
- 12+ years of progressive experience in energy or major infrastructure development, including significant experience developing or delivering complex power-generation, grid, storage, transmission, or integrated energy projects.
- Demonstrated experience leading programs involving multiple energy technologies, infrastructure workstreams, or large-load requirements.
- Strong working knowledge of power-generation and infrastructure development, with experience across multiple technologies such as renewables, thermal generation, storage, transmission, grid infrastructure, geothermal, or other energy systems.
- Demonstrated ability to understand and integrate complex technical analyses without needing to personally perform every underlying engineering calculation or study.
- Strong understanding of energy-development processes, including interconnection, permitting, project development, capital planning, construction sequencing, operating constraints, and execution risk.
- Demonstrated experience leading cross-functional teams and driving outcomes across organizations where individual workstream leaders do not directly report to the role.
- Ability to frame complex system-level issues, evaluate alternatives and tradeoffs, reconcile competing priorities, and drive timely decisions.
- Strong executive communication skills, including the ability to synthesize complex technical and project information into clear recommendations for senior leadership.
- Ability and willingness to travel to project sites, partner locations, and other locations as required.
- Eligible to work in the United States without the need for employer visa sponsorship now or in the future.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in engineering, energy, or a related discipline.
- Experience developing or delivering i ntegrated energy systems, hybrid power projects, microgrids, large-load infrastructure, or multi-technology generation and storage portfolios.
- Experience with utility-scale generation, battery storage, transmission, large-load interconnection, behind-the-meter energy systems, or grid-connected hybrid projects.
- Experience supporting large industrial, manufacturing, mining, LNG, data center, or other energy-intensive customers where multiple infrastructure systems had to be integrated around a common load requirement.
- Familiarity with data center power requirements, hyperscale infrastructure, large-load phasing, reliability expectations, and speed-to-power considerations.
- Experience working within an independent power producer, utility, infrastructure developer, large energy user, or integrated power-solutions organization.
What Success Looks Like
The successful Director will enable Invenergy to turn multiple independently developed energy and infrastructure workstreams into one coordinated, reliable, and executable solution for the data center.
Success will be measured by the ability to define and maintain a coherent integrated energy architecture, align independent technology teams around common milestones and system requirements, identify and resolve cross-functional dependencies early, provide leadership with clear and timely decisions, and establish repeatable approaches that allow Invenergy to deliver increasingly complex integrated energy solutions as the Digital Infrastructure portfolio scales.
