Position purpose
The Shop Technician I is an entry-level production role for a person building foundational manufacturing
skills. The technician learns IAS products, materials, tools, drawings, work instructions, safety standards,
quality expectations, and Odoo work-order practices while contributing to daily fabrication and
assembly. Work is initially performed with instruction and review; independence increases as skills are
demonstrated.
Core responsibilities shared by both levels
• Perform assigned fabrication, mechanical mounting, plumbing, assembly, testing, packaging,
receiving, and shipping work in accordance with released drawings, bills of material, work
instructions, and quality requirements.
• Use hand tools, power tools, measuring tools, shop equipment, adhesives, solvents, and
materials safely and correctly after required training and authorization.
• Complete required Odoo work-order, time, material, completion, scrap, and status
transactions accurately and on time.
• Inspect work during and after completion; identify defects, missing information, material
issues, unsafe conditions, or technical questions before proceeding.
• Maintain organized tools, materials, work-in-process, and assigned work areas using IAS
safety, housekeeping, and 5S standards.
• Support receiving, material staging, inventory counts, crating, loading, facility upkeep, and
other reasonable production needs.
• Communicate progress, constraints, mistakes, and assistance needs directly and promptly;
contribute to a respectful, accountable team environment
Level I scope and expectations
• Learn and follow defined methods rather than selecting or changing fabrication methods
independently.
• Perform basic measurement, cutting, drilling, deburring, fastening, equipment mounting, PVC
preparation and assembly, system assembly, packaging, and material-handling tasks after
training.
• Read basic drawings, labels, bills of material, cut lists, and work instructions with assistance;
verify the correct job and document revision before starting.
• Ask for clarification when requirements are unclear and stop work when safety, quality,
material, or documentation concerns arise.
• Demonstrate consistent attendance, reliability, pace, care of tools, attention to detail,
teamwork, and pride of workmanship.
• Complete IAS basic training and assigned skill qualifications within established timeframes.
Minimum qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Mechanical aptitude and genuine interest in hands-on manufacturing, construction,
fabrication, assembly, installation, maintenance, or a skilled trade.
• Ability to learn safe use of common hand and power tools, measuring tools, and shop
equipment.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, document work, perform basic math and
measurements, and communicate clearly.
• Positive attitude, willingness to learn, dependable work habits, and ability to accept coaching
and correction.
Preferred qualifications
• Prior employment, internship, coursework, or personal project experience in manufacturing,
construction, field service, plumbing, mechanical assembly, automotive work, or a technical
trade.
• Exposure to PVC piping, plastic materials, metal, wood, pumps, valves, mechanical
equipment, electrical wiring, or control systems.
• Trade-school, vocational, community-college, military, or employer-based technical training.
• Interest in aquaculture, aquatic life support, water treatment, public aquariums, or related
industries
Typical indicators of successful Level I performance
• Completes routine assigned work safely and correctly with decreasing supervision.
• Uses tools and materials appropriately and maintains an organized workstation.
• Follows drawings and work instructions, records work accurately in Odoo, and raises
questions before errors occur.
• Shows measurable progress in PVC fabrication, mechanical mounting, assembly, testing
support, and basic electrical awareness.
• Can be relied upon for attendance, teamwork, communication, workmanship, and timely
completion.

Physical and work-environment requirements
This position works in an industrial fabrication and assembly environment. The employee must be able
to stand and move for extended periods; use hand and power tools; bend, reach, climb, and work
around equipment; and safely lift and move materials typical of the role, with reasonable
accommodation where required. Work may involve noise, dust, adhesives, solvents, sharp tools,
energized test equipment, forklifts, and lifting devices. Required PPE and safety procedures must be
followed.
Role acknowledgement
This description summarizes the position’s primary responsibilities and expectations. Duties may evolve
with business needs, and IAS may assign other reasonable responsibilities consistent with the role.
Placement within a pay range depends on demonstrated skills, experience, performance, and internal
equity. Nothing in this document changes the at-will employment relationship.
