## About the role
Work Location 1Powerhouse, PJ (5mins walk from MRT Bandar Utama)
Reporting To Regulatory Team Lead / Manager
Working Hours 12.00pm – 9.00 pm
The Regulatory Technologist is responsible for interpreting and addressing day-to-day regulatory technical queries from internal and external stakeholders relating to finished goods manufactured in Europe. The role requires sound food science knowledge and product understanding, supported by regulatory judgement, to analyse technical information and provide accurate, relevant, and technically defensible responses.
Operating within the Global Business Service centre, the role provides downstream product information and regulatory support, bridging upstream product development, manufacturing, and commercial operations with customer-facing product information requirements. The role works closely with Regulatory Scientific Affairs (RSA), RD&A, Quality, Operations, and Account Managers to deliver accurate, consistent, and timely responses with a right-first-time approach, supporting customer satisfaction and business growth.
## Key responsibilities
- Own and prioritise regulatory requests from initial assessment through to resolution, considering customer urgency, technical complexity, regulatory risk, and business impact, and deliver accurate, high-quality responses within agreed service timelines.
- Interpret customer and stakeholder queries, evaluate product, ingredient, and regulatory information, and apply relevant food science, product knowledge, and regulatory understanding to develop clear, accurate, evidence-based, and technically defensible responses and recommended actions.
- Independently investigate and assess available product information, technical documentation, approved internal guidance, and relevant information sources before seeking further clarification. Identify information gaps, inconsistencies, and potential regulatory risks, and engage the appropriate subject matter expert when additional clarification, specialist interpretation, or approval is required.
- Effectively use relevant systems, databases, and information sources to retrieve, assess, and manage the information required to resolve regulatory requests accurately and efficiently.
- Assess the impact of changes to product, ingredient, or regulatory information and update affected documentation, technical assessments, and customer responses as required, with appropriate consultation.
- Develop, maintain, and manage accurate technical documentation, customer information, regulatory records, and correspondence in accordance with applicable regulations, internal standards, approved procedures, and data governance requirements. Maintain traceability of the information reviewed, supporting evidence, regulatory rationale, and decisions made for each assessment and response.
- Build effective working relationships and collaborate with RD&A, Quality, Operations, Commercial, and other relevant internal or external stakeholders to obtain necessary information, resolve technical queries, and support timely and accurate customer responses.
- Meet individual and departmental performance expectations for response quality, turnaround time, and operational delivery. Proactively identify recurring customer queries, information gaps, documentation weaknesses, and opportunities to improve technical response quality, knowledge sharing, regulatory processes, and service efficiency.
- Remain fully flexible and adapt to changing business priorities, customer requirements, and operational needs while maintaining the required standards of technical quality, accuracy, and service delivery.
## Qualifications and skills
- Degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, or related Life Science discipline with the ability to practically apply scientific knowledge in a food regulatory environment.
- Minimum 1-3 years of relevant experience in the food packaging industry within Regulatory, Quality Assurance, or R&D.
- Food industry knowledge, with working knowledge of food regulations, quality systems and their practical application within the food industry.
- Have no issues working European shift hours and be able to provide support during public holidays. Flexibility and reliability are key to providing consistent support across different time zones and during peak periods.
- This is a desk-based technical role focused on downstream product information and regulatory support, bridging upstream product development, manufacturing, and commercial operations with customer-facing product information requirements. As the production sites and products are located in Europe, the role does not involve direct physical handling of products or routine access to production facilities. Instead, technical assessments and customer responses are developed through close partnerships via virtual platforms and the interpretation of product specifications and regulatory requirements.
Functional Competencies
- Food Science and Technical Expertise Demonstrates a strong understanding of food science principles and can apply this knowledge when interpreting product information, technical documentation, and customer queries.
- Regulatory and Compliance Application Able to understand applicable food regulations and internal requirements, assess their relevance to the query, and apply them appropriately when developing customer responses.
- Advanced Digital and AI Fluency Demonstrate the ability to apply AI and digital tools beyond basic drafting and paraphrasing. Practical use cases in information analysis, workflow optimisation, data handling, automation, or problem-solving are necessary. A learning mindset and the ability to translate emerging technologies into practical business improvements are highly valued.
- Experience in SAP, Optiva, Power BI and Salesforce systems an advantage.
- Additional language proficiency in Italian, French, German, or Spanish would be an advantage.
