Lead Snowflake Developer (permanent position)

Welcome to Group Technology, where we pride ourselves on engineering solutions and direct Nordea’s transformation by providing a holistic technological view and structured understanding of the bank, and its surrounding environment to enable the Customer Vision and the Business Strategy.

We are looking for an experienced Lead Snowflake Developer who will provide technical leadership to other Snowflake developers by establishing and applying engineering standards, reviewing code, and offering hands-on guidance to ensure scalable, secure, and high-quality data solutions.

Nordea is a place where traditions meet tomorrow. We're not just a bank, we're a tech employer on a mission to evolve finance securely and responsibly. Together, we impact millions of people’s daily lives by ensuring they can access our solutions anytime, anywhere, while safeguarding their personal data and wealth. Join us in making an impact on the banking industry.

About our team

Meet the Regulatory Reporting Software Development Team. We deliver end-to-end technology solutions for Nordea's Regulatory Reporting Service Domain - from building and maintaining software to automating key processes and supporting critical platforms. Our work keeps Group Function Technology running smoothly and compliantly, and we are now expanding into AI to unlock the next wave of efficiency and intelligence for the bank.

What you'll be doing

As a Lead Snowflake Developer, you will:

- Lead the design and development of scalable Snowflake data platforms, dimensional models, and reliable data pipelines for regulatory reporting and enterprise analytics.

- Set the technical direction and ensure solution designs, SQL, and code meet standards for quality, maintainability, security, and regulatory compliance.

- Optimize Snowflake performance and cost through effective query tuning, warehouse sizing, workload management, and platform monitoring.

- Drive consistent engineering practices for data modelling, lineage, automated testing, CI/CD, deployment, observability, and operational resilience.

- Collaborate with business and technology stakeholders, mentor engineers, and promote continuous improvement across the data platform team.

Who you are

You will thrive in this role if you:

- Combine deep Snowflake expertise with a practical, hands-on approach to designing scalable data platforms and solving complex engineering challenges.

- Translate business and regulatory requirements into secure, reliable, and maintainable data solutions in close collaboration with stakeholders and engineering teams.

- Take ownership of technical direction, make sound architectural decisions, and drive delivery from design through production support.

- Raise engineering standards through mentoring, constructive code reviews, and consistent practices for quality, governance, automation, and operational resilience.

- Communicate clearly, act proactively, and balance delivery priorities with performance, cost, security, and long-term maintainability.

Your background and skills include:

- Extensive hands-on experience designing and developing enterprise data warehouse solutions on Snowflake, supported by advanced SQL and dimensional data modelling skills.

- Strong experience building reliable ELT/ETL pipelines and orchestrated data workflows using Python and modern data integration tools.

- Proven ability to optimize Snowflake query performance, warehouse utilization, scalability, and cost for high-volume data workloads.

- Practical knowledge of secure cloud data engineering, including role-based access control, data protection, auditability, lineage, and regulatory compliance requirements.

- Demonstrated technical leadership through solution design, code reviews, CI/CD and testing practices, stakeholder collaboration, and mentoring of data engineers.

It would be ideal if you also:

- Hold a SnowPro certification or equivalent credentials demonstrating advanced expertise in Snowflake architecture and development.

- Have experience with Snowpark, dbt, stream and task automation, or Snowflake capabilities such as secure data sharing and Cortex AI.

- Bring experience from banking, financial services, or regulatory reporting environments with demanding data governance, lineage, audit, and resilience requirements.
