About this role
Are you ready to shape the future of data?
Matillion is the company behind Maia, the AI Data Automation platform.
In the AI economy, demand for data is exploding. Manual data engineering can’t keep up. Maia fixes that by combining 15 years of data expertise with agentic AI to eliminate the manual work that slows data teams down. Organisations like Cisco, DocuSign, and Slack are already using it to deliver real business impact, faster.
We started in Manchester and now we’re global - with teams across the UK, US and India.
We are driven, curious, energetic people who move fast, think big and hold ourselves to a high standard. We’re here to make a dent in the universe bigger than ourselves. And we’re looking for people who want to be part of it.
What will you be doing?
IT Systems Automation
- Act as the final technical authority and escalation point for complex issues related to core systems and processes.
- Relentlessly automate manual processes across all systems, particularly user lifecycle management (onboarding/offboarding), using no-code tools and scripting.
- Own the technical delivery and stability of high-profile, company-wide events (e.g., All Hands) hosted on Zoom.
Process Automation & Optimization
- Collaborate with internal teams (like People & Culture and Security) to remove friction from key business processes, re-engineering workflows for speed and efficiency.
- Proactively analyse support ticket trends to identify and eliminate entire classes of service requests through automation or system improvements.
- Own and automate the monitoring of hardware and SaaS compliance, ensuring all systems align with business and security standards.
- Maintain and build a comprehensive knowledge base, documenting system architecture, processes, and automation workflows.
Leadership & Incident Management
- As the core IT representative in the office, provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance on engineering best practices.
- Act as the primary technical lead for incidents impacting core systems, assuming the role of Incident Commander as required.
- Own the problem management lifecycle: identify recurring incidents, perform root cause analysis (RCA), and engineer permanent solutions to prevent reoccurrence.
- Lead and participate in IT improvement projects, with a strong focus on strategic automation initiatives.
What are we looking for?
Skills Required
- Deep technical expertise in engineering, administering, and automating cloud-based and physical IT infrastructure, including: Okta (or similar IdP), Google Workspace, Atlassian Suite, Zoom, Slack, Jamf (macOS/iOS), and Intune (Windows/Android).
- A proven track record of proactively identifying and eliminating technical friction by engineering automated solutions, moving beyond simple ticket resolution.
- Strong experience with no-code automation tools (e.g., N8n, Zapier, Workato) or scripting (e.g., Python, GAM) to build and maintain efficient workflows.
- Demonstrated experience in technical mentorship and a strong capability for leadership, acting as a technical authority and guide.
- Excellent understanding of user lifecycle processes (onboarding/offboarding) and compliance management, with direct experience in automating these workflows.
- Experience in managing vendor relationships and acting as the final point of escalation for complex technical issues.
- Proficiency in incident and problem management, with a focus on root cause analysis and engineering permanent fixes. Experience acting as an Incident Commander is highly desirable.
- Experience in leading technical projects and managing initiatives from conception to completion.
- Relevant certifications in cloud platforms (GCP, Azure), Identity (Okta), or key SaaS products are a significant plus.
- Confidence to engage and drive technical conversations with diverse audiences.
- Proven ability to prioritise and manage multiple engineering projects and competing priorities effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Personal Capabilities
- The ability to work one-on-one with users as well as within a support team
- Good listener who understands a technical issue to provide clear, unambiguous feedback
- A real problem solver, able to function in a very fast-paced environment.
- A mindset around continuous improvement, not only in business processes and improving automation but also within themselves
