AI Technical Product Owner

General Description

The AI Technical Product Owner is responsible for defining, prioritizing, and managing the roadmap, backlog, governance, and adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) capabilities embedded within the organization’s technology platforms. This role serves as the primary liaison between business stakeholders, engineering teams, architecture, cybersecurity, and platform leadership to ensure AI initiatives deliver measurable business value while adhering to established governance, security, compliance, and financial management standards.

The incumbent will lead the product lifecycle for AI-powered developer tools, cloud-based AI services, and AI-enabled software delivery solutions. This role requires a blend of product management expertise, technical acumen, strategic thinking, and stakeholder management skills to drive AI innovation and operational excellence across the enterprise.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Product Strategy & Roadmap Management

- Define and manage the product vision, roadmap, priorities, and backlog for AI-related platform capabilities.

- Translate strategic business objectives into product features, epics, user stories, and technical requirements.

- Partner with engineering, architecture, cybersecurity, and business stakeholders to align AI product investments with organizational goals.

- Establish and monitor product performance metrics, adoption targets, and business outcomes.

- Communicate product strategy, progress, risks, and recommendations to senior leadership and key stakeholders.

Agile Product Ownership

- Own and continuously refine the product backlog, ensuring alignment with business priorities and technical requirements.

- Develop and prioritize epics, features, and user stories with clear acceptance criteria.

- Facilitate backlog refinement, sprint planning, sprint reviews, and product demonstrations.

- Support Agile delivery teams by removing roadblocks, clarifying requirements, and driving decision-making.

- Monitor delivery progress, risks, dependencies, and overall product health.

AI Governance, Risk & Compliance

- Define and maintain governance standards for AI tool adoption and usage.

- Partner with cybersecurity and risk management teams to ensure AI solutions comply with security, privacy, and regulatory requirements.

- Establish controls related to acceptable AI usage, model governance, human oversight requirements, and responsible AI practices.

- Support audit readiness through proper documentation, risk assessments, and governance controls.

- Ensure compliance with Secure Software Development Lifecycle (SSDLC) requirements throughout product delivery. Financial & Operational Management

- Monitor AI platform utilization, costs, and overall value realization.

- Collaborate with technology and finance teams to support cloud cost optimization and FinOps practices.

- Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs), operational metrics, and adoption measurements.

- Evaluate new technologies, vendors, and platform capabilities to support organizational objectives.

Stakeholder Engagement & Enablement

- Act as a trusted advisor to technology and business leaders regarding AI-enabled capabilities and opportunities.

- Lead product adoption efforts through user engagement, training initiatives, feedback mechanisms, and change management activities.

- Gather stakeholder feedback and incorporate insights into the product roadmap and prioritization process.

- Foster cross-functional collaboration to ensure successful implementation and sustained adoption of AI solutions.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Business Technology, or a related field.

Master’s Degree is preferred.

Experience

- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in Product Management, Product Ownership, Technology Strategy, Software Engineering, or related roles.

- Minimum of two (2) years of experience supporting Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Cloud Platforms, Digital Products, or emerging technology initiatives.

- Experience working within Agile delivery environments utilizing Scrum, Kanban, SAFe, or similar frameworks.

- Experience collaborating with software engineering, architecture, cybersecurity, and business stakeholders.

- Experience managing technical products throughout the product lifecycle, from ideation through implementation and adoption.

- Experience in regulated industries such as financial services is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA)

- Strong understanding of Product Management and Product Ownership principles.

- Knowledge of Artificial Intelligence, Generative AI, Large Language Models (LLMs), and AI-powered development tools.

- Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.

- Knowledge of software development methodologies, software delivery practices, and DevSecOps concepts.

- Understanding of Agile frameworks and backlog management practices.

- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

- Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and stakeholder communication skills.

- Ability to translate complex technical concepts into business-friendly language.

- Strong organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.

- Ability to influence cross-functional teams and drive alignment without direct authority.

- Experience with data-driven decision making, KPI tracking, and performance measurement.

- Knowledge of governance, risk management, compliance, and technology controls preferred.

Certifications (Preferred)

- Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO)

- SAFe Product Owner/Product Manager (POPM)

- AWS Cloud, AI, or related technical certifications

- Product Management certifications or equivalent credentials
